Have you ever had a condom break?

Anal, ahem extended sessions, vaginas with spike strips installed…

Thank freaking God I’m married and had the big V. I don’t ever want to have to use one of those stupid things ever again.

Yeah, I had one break in high school. I felt it break, pulled out, and whoops, sorry about the prom dress, babe!

Happened to me once and I did not notice. Fortunately she was on the pill but I did not know it and I’ll never forget that “Uh oh!” moment trying to decide what to do next. Ruin the wonderful mood and run? Keep quiet? Fess up? Partly because this was an established relationship (although the first time we had ever had sex) and mostly because it was the right thing to do I told her what happened right away at which point she told me no worries.

That was a relief and paved the way for much more frolicking!

All “normal” in my book, which was my reason for axing.

Yep, once. Was on a Sunday so necessitated a taxi ride to the hospital to get the morning after pill, and a nice lecture from the doctor about the importance of using contraception.

We use them every time (in addition to birth control.) Never had one break.

Twice. It was not pleasant.

Doesn’t Plan B still count as contraception? It’s not an abortion–it only works to prevent conception.

Unfortunately I’ve had a couple breakages. The first one I didn’t notice until everything was done. The second one it felt like a roller shade retracting. (flap, flap, flap…)

Fortunately there were no long term bad effects.

Twice. Thank og neither resulted in pregnancy (but there were a few fright-filled days.)

A few times, during the nineties, “Wakinyan’s wild years”, when done, wondering: Where did the rest of this go? I’m serious.

I guess I’m in the minority, but I used to have them break a lot. Upwards of 25% of the time with a certain Japanese brand that I bought. I actually ordered them because of a suggestion from other dopers, that they were thinner (but still as strong!) and felt better. Well…they did feel better, but they broke a lot. I even ordered the large ones, since they were said to run small. But they’re large were about the same size as an average Trojan or Durex regular, and after that, I bought the large versions of those, and the failure rate has dropped considerably.

And yes, I noticed every time, though none of the women ever did. I don’t know about other guys, but I notice a LARGE difference in feeling between condomed and non-condomed sex (hot damn the latter feels so much better, but when one is unsure of a new partner’s “status,” as it were, you gotta do what you gotta do.)

It does not prevent conception (fertilization of the egg). It prevents implantation in the womb and it gets expelled in the usual female manner.

As such some consider this an abortion (as they do the Pill taken normally for the same reasons although IIRC the Pill does do some things to make fertilization less likely albeit not impossible).

You know the Morning After pill can wait till, well, the morning after (actually up to 72 hours after the deed)?

But its effectiveness (something around 75%) is highest the sooner it is taken.

The earlier you use it, the better your chances of preventing pregnancy. Plus it provides a little peace of mind (to make up for the upheaval of stomach). Not that the days or weeks up to your next period are exactly smooth sailing after you’ve taken it.

Okay, I suppose it’s not technically contraception, then. Still, it’s a lot more responsible than sitting around and doing nothing. Stupid doctor.

I’d also want to take it ASAP if I’d experienced a broken condom.

Preaching to the choir here. I’m with you.

Was just pointing out the specifics is all.

Once. Like the friggin day I started taking the pill too, so it wasn’t effective yet. We didn’t notice. Woah boy did I get wasted after that so I could calm down (I reaaaalllllyy didn’t want to get pregnant). Then I got the morning after pill and started using lube more. No condom issues since, 4 years later.

Twice.

The first time, we were young and stupid and didn’t know yet that (massage)oil weakens latex considerably.

The second time was classic, unexplained breakage.

And we’ve had the " uh-oh, where did it go?"-moment twice, too.
