[
“filker”? – the definition is right there, but …?]
Yes, a few. Mostly bar fights, but police were called, and the fighters were escorted out in handcuffs. Criminal charges followed.
Have you ever adopted a stray animal?
Many, my best story is the just ran over ( by car) cat. I stopped to help, and he died in my arms. I took him home and buried him in my flower bed. I even have a little stone with his name ‘Freeway Ghost’ painted on it. Best cat I ever owned.
Have you ever sat on or rode on an Elephant?
No, but my grandson has (on a trip to the circus).
Have You Ever climbed to the top of a mountain?
Yes. It wasn’t a super high mountain and there were walkways to get to the top, but I got to the top. The view was beautiful.
Have you ever gone skinny dipping (on a beautiful moon filled night for bonus points)?
Yes, and there aren’t enough bonus points in the world to cover it! We were three couples, had to walk along a railroad trestle to get to a wide spot in the river with a grassy bank, did some general teenage goofy stuff, and then separated by couples to have a private swim. All done on a spur of the moment decision while just driving around. That night could be the basis for a great '70s coming-of-age movie, if you know what I mean
Have you ever ridden in a cart(or other wheeled conveyance) pulled by an animal other than a horse?
No.
Have you ever memorized a poem for school?
Yes. The Raven.
Have you ever almost been hit by a car because the driver was breaking the law?
Yes, several times, both as a pedestrian and as a driver. Mostly idjits running red lights or not being careful as they made turns. Never hit yet, fortunately (knock on wood).
HYE seen a vehicle get crushed in a junkyard?
Nope. It was a fine car, but it was a total wreck.
HYE watched a sunset less than an hour before the first full moon of the cycle became evident?
Yes, vacationing on a small island in the Philippines we saw a magnificent sunset and then a beautiful full moon.
Have you ever seen the Grand Canyon? (Is it worth the trip from the East Coast? My dad saw it as a young man on a train from CA to the Midwest and said that it was one of the most impressive sights of his life)
Only from an airplane at 10,00 feet, so that’s not really seeing it.
HYE broken something valuable that was borrowed?
No.
Have you ever made a gift for someone?
Yes, many times, for Madame P. and for friends and family. Most of them were appreciated.
Have You Ever mowed a lawn with a non-motorized push mower?
Yes, I have. Once. I have never been so tired in my life as I was afterward.
Have you ever seen all the Best Picture nominated movies for a year before the Oscars broadcast?
No, not even close.
Have you ever walked on stilts?
Yes, when I was a kid, my dad made a set for my sisters and me. I was never very good at walking on them, though.
Yes, gkster, yes, a thousand times yes: if you ever have the chance to see the Grand Canyon in person, you should. Even the most awesome photographs don’t nearly do it justice. It really is spectacular!
Have you ever given travel advice to another Doper?
Yes. Another Doper once asked about Waterton Lakes National Park. Since it’s not far from me, and I’m there a few times a year, I gladly advised on accommodations, things to do and see, and so on.
Have you ever visited a national park outside your own country?
Yes, at least 2 dozen, (I didn’t expect it would be so many) in England, Scotland, Canada, Mexico, Japan, the Philippines and Israel. Oddly enough, the first park I thought of, Algonquin Park in Ontario, is not a national park (it’s provincial) while there’s another in Ontario, Rouge, that I’ve visited several times without knowing that it’s recently been declared a national park.
(Thanks Elendil’s Heir, the Grand Canyon is now on my list of must-sees)
HYE trapped any animal, for whatever reason? (we’re looking at our town’s Trap-Neuter-Return feral cat program)
Yes, when I was about 12 or 13 I decided to make myself rich by trapping muskrats for fun and profit. That lasted maybe two months. Since then I trapped a few possums where I used to work because they kept getting into the warehouse and set off the motion-detector alarms.
Have you ever skinned a mammal?
