Have You Ever...?

No, but I did once put regular soap inside the dishwasher. It was my first time being asked to run the dishwasher! Now that was a major clean-up effort. Soap suds all over the kitchen floor.

Have you ever taken a foreign language course?

Yes, French for 6 years in middle school and high school, German for a year in high school and for a grad school language requirement, Hebrew for a summer.

Have you ever been spoken to in a foreign language that you didn’t speak by someone who thought you could speak it?

Yes, twice, once in Spanish, once in German. I have one of those faces that makes everyone thinks they know who I am.
Have you ever deliberately embarrassed a child?

I often made fools out of my nephews when they were kids. Then, they got bigger than me. It’s not so much fun any more.

Have you ever chopped down a tree?

Frequently when I was a kid. Then I grew up and bought a chainsaw.

Have you ever built a treehouse with no adult help(other kids are fine)?

Yes. When I was about 12, a friend and I scavenged some wood, and built a treehouse. It even had rudimentary walls and a roof. It lasted a couple of years, until a severe storm destroyed it. We didn’t rebuild; we had other interests by then.

Have you ever played in an adult sports league?

Not quite a sports league, but we did intramurals at work for a couple of years, with basketball for men, volleyball for women, mixed softball, and field events.

Have you ever seen one of your favorite performers (stage, screen, music, sports) performing live?

Yes-Patton Oswalt here in Portland.

Have you ever been a “Best Man” or “Bridesmaid”?

I was best man for my little brother.

I also filled in as best man when the real best man got a call informing him his baby had died (month old infant that had never left the hospital). I was at that wedding as the bridesmaid’s date; I didn’t know a soul there.

HYE been mellow?

I once was so mellow I was yellow, fellow.

Have you ever eaten fried green tomatoes?

Sure, quite often. Now I can’t wait for my Fall tomatoes to start producing!

HYE driven shoeless on a road trip? Bonus points for being shirtless too.

Nude from Riverside to El Cajon(stupid bet).

HYE kissed a total stranger, never to see them again?

Yes, 29 years ago

Inspired by this thread, have you looked forward to trying a food and then been disappointed?
(though I have to say that I’ve had many of the foods mentioned and not been disappointed)

Yes-fresh Maine lobster when I visited the East coast a few years back. Not impressed.

HYE gone to a bar and ordered a drink that cost $50 or more?

I seem to recall, a week or so before I got married, my best man and I going out for drinks. After a few more than we probably should have had, we got the idea to sample from the expensive side of the single-malt Scotch menu. I think I had one costing about $65 for one shot. It was superb. Too bad I can’t remember what it was.

Have you ever ridden overnight on a train?

No, but I’ve ridden overnight on a Greyhound bus that led me, eventually, from Indiana to South Carolina.

Have you ever had one of your favorite sports teams win a league championship?

Well, I’m from Pittsburgh, so yeah, all the time.

Have you ever returned to your car and found it not there?

Yeah. When I was a teenager, our family’s full-sized van was stolen right from in front of our house. It was the second time someone had attempted to steal it. The first time, we actually caught someone in the act. This time, we didn’t recover the van for several days, which was kind of a pain in the ass because my backpack was in there. Eventually, it was brought to a police impound lot, where the backpack and other things from it were recovered. The van was a total loss, though. Dad didn’t allow any of us to see it, but when he came back from seeing it, he was crying. I don’t want to know what it looked like.

Have you ever had a moment of personal interaction with someone competing in a sports event?

Yes. I was at a college basketball game, and my school (the home team) won the game as a big underdog. The students all ran out onto the Court, and it was complete chaos. I found myself face to face with one of the most hated players on the opposing team, so I shoved him away from me. The game wasn’t over though. The refs said there was still a little bit of time left on the clock, so we all had to get off the Court so the game could finish (we still won).

Have you ever been inside a correctional facility?
