Can you please share with us this foolproof strategy so we can all follow it? I definitely would like to know this 100% effective solution that guarantees no one gets infected!
Or is it, “I never ever go outside and interact with anyone, so that’s why I don’t need to wear a mask! Hahaha gotcha!”
Back in the beginning of June, my wife and I were touring a house for sale. The rules at the time mandated masks and gloves at all times and only one person inside the home along with the agent. While she was inside, I was looking at the yard. A guy in a pickup driving by slowed down to yell at me for wearing a mask in my own back yard.
It wasn’t my back yard at the time (we did buy the house).
Other than that one time, I haven’t seen anyone being that vocal about masks. Once the big stores started mandating them, use has risen dramatically.
I didn’t say I didn’t wear a mask where they are required. This is kind of insulting actually.
I say they are not doing much good.
And if I get the virus from an asymptomatic person and remain asymptomatic, so fucking what?
I have lost three good friends this last year and another one is in fairly bad shape and probably won’t last the year. None of them died from coronavirus. People do die of other things, all the time. (Two of them were younger than I am, too.)
What cite? Everytime you mention COVID and protests on Twitter everyone jumps on you claiming there was no COVID spike from the protests which seems almost impossible knowing how easy it can spread.
Most of the pictures I saw of BLM protesters showed them staying somewhat distant and mostly wearing masks. You claimed they were standing shoulder-to-shoulder maskless. Compliance wasn’t 100%, but there are a lot of masks in those pictures that I saw.
Please provide a cite for the first claim. Thanks! And, for your second quoted statement, why do you think you’d remain asymptomatic? Obviously, some people develop symptoms and some of those die. And, if you do remain asymptomatic, that’s great for you, but if you pass it along because you’re not wearing a mask (not you specifically), then some of those people will get it and some subset will die. This isn’t a difficult concept.
I’m sorry you’ve lost people close to you. I’m not sure what that has to do with this conversation, but it’s such a terrible time right now, and losing people you love is terrible whenever it happens and it’s just not something anyone needs right now at all.
You still didn’t explain your foolproof way to not spread the virus. You said it wasn’t possible for you to spread it, so come on, enlighten us all with how so we too can follow your methods!
And not sure what people dying from other causes has to do with anything… If you knew someone who died of cancer would you never wear a seatbelt?
It’s not hard to find images of people at protests in extreme close quarters with no masks standing so close to each other and shouting which is apparently one of the major ways to pass it. The fact you have multiple people claiming that there’s been no Coronavirus uptick from protests is simply absurd considering this entire topic is about how you must wear a mask at all times in public to not get it.
Seatbelts drive me crazy. If I’m alone in my car I don’t wear one.
No; what I was saying is that people are going to die of various things no matter what. We’re all gonna die. There’s zillions of things that could get you, but now everybody is focused on this one thing, which statistically is very unlikely to kill you.
Oh, my foolproof way to not spread the virus is to not get it in the first place. Given where I am, I am 99% unlikely to get it.
So here’s the thing about masks. You wear one when you go into the restaurant, but when you sit down you can take it off, because now you’re magically unable to spread the virus (in the extremely unlikely event that you have it).
You go to the gym and you have to wear a mask when you check in but you don’t have to wear it while exercising. Because now, once again, you are magically unable to spread it.
You don’t have to wear a mask in the pool but, because of their need to “sanitize” the hours are limited so you will probaby have to share a lane. Right? Because this is such an excellent time to share a lane. And I mean sure, you can’t wear a mask in the pool because you’d drown.
So all this makes it look like the mask is just theater. Something you wear for show, in the grocery store. Because in the grocery store you’re much more likely to be contagious than if you’re in a restaurant or in the gym. Right?
You are absolutely correct that taking off your mask when indoors would help to spread the virus. That is why you shouldn’t be going to eat-in restaurants and gyms in the first place.
The “theater” is that because idiots don’t want to wear masks, those in charge in certain states are pressured to re-open places where said idiots should not be going. If these idiots all just wore masks and did what they were supposed to do, this pandemic would have been over months ago.
You seem to have this strange notion that if a person doesn’t intend to kill another person, it’s not homicide. In fact, that’s exactly what negligent homicide is.
If nobody dies or gets sick, refusing to wear a mask is still reckless endangerment.
Then why didn’t it go away when all these things were closed? People were wearing masks then, at least to the grocery store. And the grocery store was the only thing open.
There you go. This is a good plan! Particularly with car accidents as they are usually the fault of both drivers, although not in equal parts, and are 95% avoidable with defensive driving.
In my state, you can’t eat inside restaurants. Gyms are also closed.
However, when I went to Maine, you could eat inside, and you did exactly that. When walking through the restaurant, you’re breathing on lots of people. Once you’re seated, you’re only breathing on your party, because restaurant capacity was limited so that tables weren’t closer than 6 feet. So, the crap coming out of your mouth has a chance to settle to the ground before infecting others.
I don’t know about gyms – maybe you can’t exercise close to people? Proximity matters in this pandemic.
The reason why it’s unlikely that you’ll get this disease is because of all these precautions. Maybe you didn’t notice the huge shutdown and the prevalence of masks? However, if everyone decided not to wear masks (I know you wear yours, but you don’t think you need it), infections would go way up and your probability would increase.
So, thank you for wearing a mask, even though you think it’s stupid!
I think I’m done arguing with someone who doesn’t wear a seat belt, so enjoy your day.
