Have you gotten up close and personal with a star?

When Gov’t Mule was just getting started, they played a local club in OKC. A friend and I went to the club early in the afternoon to find out when the doors would open and ran into Warren Haynes walking down the street. After talking for a few minutes, Allen Woody walked up and joined us. Then Matt Abts came along. While they were signing some CDs we brought, my friend asked what they were doing wandering the streets. They had spotted a laundromat down the street and were taking advantage of the opportunity. Ah, the glamorous life of a rock star!

My (female) friend struck up a friendship with Allen (and their “tour mystic”, Kirk West) which led to us going to Atlanta for a New Year’s show (recorded and released as “…With A Little Help From Our Friends”). There I met Bernie Worrell (in the hotel lobby), Phil Walden, Jr. (briefly) and shook hands (gently) with Derek Trucks. All were very nice, down-to-earth people and Bernie was a character, flirting with my friend while his wife stood by laughing and telling her “Don’t worry, honey, he’s all talk.”

A couple of years later we saw Storyville in another club and got to meet Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon (aka “Double Trouble”) afterward. Also some very nice people.

I don’t know if it counts, but a long time ago I saw a band called Little Sister play (several times), met the band and got autographs. The singer is now on RockStar:Supernova. Her name is Patrice Pike. (I think she was about twelve years old back then. ) If you’ve only ever seen her there, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet! That girl can seriously rock a house!

I met **Christopher Reeve ** outside the stage door of a Broadway show. Shook his hand and got an autograph on my Playbill.

We noticed **Joan Baez ** at a nearby table at a NY restaurant. Sent over a round of drinks for her table, and stopped by on the way out to thank her for all the music. She called us (not her agent, or her secretary, but herself) a few days later and offered us a spot at her table at the club where she was performing in the Village.

Met Peter, Paul and Mary at a diner near where they had performed in NJ.

And my late father claimed that he had (literally) bumped into Roy Rogers on a train.

And – someone I once worked with said she worked as a cashier in a supermarket with a girl who dated, but broke up with, **Jon Bon Jovi. **

If I ever got a chance to get back in to the industry, I would in a heartbeat. I’d hate to have “tell all” stories circulating that could be traced back to me.

I’ll stick with the nice ones. Sorry to disappoint.
