Have You Had a Package Stolen?

A few have gone missing in the nearly 20 years we’ve been in this complex. One time, we found the empty box in the trash room in the basement. Contacted Amazon and they sent replacement LED nightlight bulbs with next-day shipping at no charge.

For a while, the Postal Service refused to bring packages any further than the mailbox for each building, which meant they’d be an open invitation for thieves. My SO raised a big stink with the main post office and our carrier now at least comes up to the second floor, where we are. Third floor packages are still left at the mailbox; we bring packages up to the intended recipients if nobody gets to them before we do.

I use Amazon lockers at a nearby convenience store for Amazon and have anything else shipped to me at work.

We are in a gated complex, so one has to be buzzed in or have the punch-in code to get in. During normal times, the delivery drivers all have the punch-in code and packages are safe left in front of the door. Never had anything that had been reported as delivered turn up missing.

However, at this time of year there are a LOT of seasonal delivery helpers who can’t seem to operate the punch-in, so we get a bunch of “undeliverable” stickers on the outside gate. Or the package gets re-routed to their center for pick-up. On a vary few occasions they have left the package outside the front gate, which is very not secure.

Putzes.

I’ve got an Amazon storefront and probably a dozen Amazon lockers around me that I’ve used when I get fed up with FedEx or UPS non-service to my house. They’re mostly at places I’m going anyways, like the Safeway or Whole Foods, so it’s at least somewhat convenient (e.g. I don’t necessarily need to go to the supermarket on days that packages arrive).

The doors to our icky apartment building aren’t secure, so anyone can come in at any time.

We’ve had 2 packages disappear since we moved in. We got email notifications that they were delivered, but we never got them. One was resent by the company and it managed to cram into our small mailbox. The other company gave me a refund, so I was satisfied. Now packages go to the inlaws who live at the very edge of their town.

I have not. I order a lot and sometimes packages are on the steps for more than 24 hours as I don’t use my front door and forget to pick them up.

I don’t know what makes my neighborhood less susceptible to theft than others. We’re one of the lower income neighborhoods in the city, that could be it. But then we’re right off the freeway so it’s a good getaway.

I refuse to answer because I don’t want to jinx myself.

It looks like it finally happened to me. The stupid part is it was a $6 cable. But Amazon doesn’t make it easy to report that a package did not in fact arrive. Instead they offer stupid advice to look around and then wait 36 hours. The silly part is an entire bag full of my wife’s prescriptions was waiting there, whic the post office employee actually left outside of our door rather than inside of our apartment vestibule!

There are numerous reports from my area of this being done, AND being caught on a surveillance camera, which makes me wonder how many of them are inside jobs.
