You have Andy Warhol there. It may surprise people but he was a devout Catholic and attended Mass regularly.
“Okay, people, break for lunch. But I want everyone back here in a hour for Gordie Howe.”
Rocky Marciano, Smokin’ Joe Frazier, Joe Louis.
Is that Jesus or John Lennon in the back?
Probably a mistake. As they (Twain or Barrie) say, “Heaven for climate, Hell for company.”
The guy on the lower left? He looks like Howard Cosell. And if he isn’t, he ought to be. Cosell definitely belongs in that picture.
Agree that Cosell should be in there, but that guy on the lower left is Ali’s trainer Angelo Dundee (as pointed out by Snake Hips in post 15).
mmm
So when I’m welcomed into heaven, my first words will be “What the Fuhh…? Who ARE you people?”
I mean, when I ‘come toward the light’ and suddenly find Isaac Asimov, Confucius and Sam Clemens and Alfred Hitchcock, Robert Johnson, and Whitney ‘n’ Bobbi and Ann B. Davis all lined up waiting to high-five me, how am I supposed to take the whole thing seriously?
Lennon, fer sure.
But what about the other long-haired white guy, with the Butterfly sign? Not what I remember George Harrison looking like.
The second guy from the back on the right (between Superman and Robin Williams)? Is that Ray Charles?
Yes it is Charles. And apparently if you are blind on earth you remain blind in heaven. Now *that *would suck.
(unless Ray just likes his shades).
mmm
Just noticed how Ray Charles is leaning in to get a better look.
Hey, photos don’t lie!
mmm
So Elvis IS dead?
*I dreamt death came the other night
And heaven’s gate swung wide;
With kindly grace an angel came
To usher me inside.
Yet there to my astonishment
Stood folks I’d known on earth,
Some I had judged as quite unfit
Or of but little worth.
Indignant words rose to my lips
But never were set free;
For every face showed stunned surprise
NO ONE expected me! *
From left to right:
- Angelo Dundee
- George Harrison
- Nelson Mandela
- Sammy Davis, Jr.
- Michael Jackson
- Prince
- Elvis Presley
- John Lennon
- Christopher Reeve
- Ray Charles
- Robin Williams
- Richard Pryor
- ?
- ?
- Duke Ellington?
- Andy Warhol
- Martin Luther King
Can someone enlighten me on the two I’m missing, and confirm or deny the one I’m not sure of?
Has to be Lennon, he said he was bigger than God.
Or did he say Rod? Probably, Rod Stewart wouldn’t be big for several years.
I know this illustration is ridiculous six ways from Sunday, but why would Christopher Reeve be wearing his Superman costume?
mmm
I guess Michael Jackson got a pass.
- Rocky Marciano
- pretty sure, Joe Frazier
- Duke Elllington
Guy with the Float like a butterfly sign is either George Harrison or Jesus.
No women in Heaven? Heaven forbid!
Question for discussion:
What female figures would you nominate to include in this particular picture?
Madalyn Murray O’Hair. Why not?
