Having the same name as your spouse

(I’m a Christine, and I never go by Chris, but I thought this was just some telemarketer or something and in any case it’d be easier to deal with if I just handled it rather than attempting to alert my husband, who is on the opposite coast at the moment.)

Ring ring!
“Hello?”
“Hello, I’m looking for Chris Lastname.”
“Sure, this is Chris Lastname.”
“Uh . . .” *distinct sound of grinding mental gears as caller, who knows my husband and knows he’s a dude, tries to figure out how he managed to accidentally call some chick who purports to have the same name. “I’m looking for the Chris who works at Company. . . . ???”
“Oh, this is the Chris who’s married to that Chris - you want his cell phone number?”

I feel bad for confusing and embarrassing the poor guy - I try to keep the time-wasting and humiliation for the telemarketers.

Anyone else share a name with their partner? My physical therapist has married friends both named Cameron, who both go by Cameron. That must get really confusing!

Evelyn Waugh was married to Evelyn Waugh.

Not I, but my mother’s grandparents were Grandpa Paul married to Grandma Paul (Paulina) and Grandpa Bill married to Grandma Bill (I believe it was short for Wilhelmina).

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory* felt just like home.

I know an Aaron married to an Erin.

I know a Chris(topher) and Chris(tine) couple. I also know a Julie and Julie couple.

I don’t think I could do it. Not that I would be likely to find a guy named Sarah anyway…

I had a college professor names Willene whose husband is named Will. I didn’t generally think about it unless she sent an email from her home email which displayed as from Will and Willene which I thought was cute.
(Is this a bad place to mention that I really like the idea of a couple having the same first name? People named Ben are like, 30% more attractive to me right off the bat.)

When I used to work in a hotel I worked on a wedding for a couple both with the surname Peters (as in, maiden name was also Peters) and the same first letter.

They met because one of them lived in the Julianalaan and the other in the Julianastraat, and on the same number, just a few blocks away from each other. They used to get each other’s mail and fell in love swapping letters.

They actually both changed their names to Peters-Peters. They had wanted to ask for Peters2 (can’t do superscript, I mean squared), but apparently you can’t do that. :frowning:

Superscript is [noparse][sup][/sup][/noparse] and subscript is [noparse][sub][/sub][/noparse].

Peters[sup]2[/sup]
Peters[sub]2[/sub]

A friend’s father had the unusual male name of “Shirley”.
And of course, friend’s mom was Shirley too.

I have the same name as my brother’s girlfriend.

He has accidentally sent text messages to me that were intended for her.

There are things one never wants to hear from one’s brother.

I knew a woman called Geraldine Curtin who married a man called Gerard Curtin.
They were both called Gerry Curtin before and after they married each other. They called their twins Gerardine and Gerald.
The next baby was a girl, so all the gags were that she should be called Annette. No.
They called her Cherry

Gerry, Gerry, Gerry, Gerry and Cherry.

Dear good God in heaven.

To the OP: Not that I’m judging, I’m just curious why you guys have never switched it up like going by Chrissy, Christine, Christopher, even Topher, Junior, CJ, Bubba, whatever. Do you both always go by Chris? And why?

Reread the opening line…

Ah great, thanks!

Not really the same, but my sister-in-law has the same first name as her husband’s ex-wife. And she changed her last name to his, so now she and his ex have the same name, save for their respective middle names. I’d find it more than a little weird to share my “Linda Jones” (for example; that’s not the name in question) with my husband’s ex, but that’s just me I guess.

The most famous (almost) same named couple has to be Jack & Jackie Kennedy.

I once knew a couple named Michel and Michele, pronounced identically in French. Also in French, Claude is both a man’s and a woman’s name, although I have never known such a couple. It is illegal in Quebec for a woman to adopt her husband’s name. I knew a couple who had the same name (they were actually some kind of cousin) and the computer of the community college where she taught refused to issue her paychecks until she came up with a maiden name different from her husband’s. She just changed the spelling slightly. It’s a Polish name ending in an “i” and she changed it to a “y” (or maybe vice versa).

Adrienne and Adrian close enough?

I knew a Chris and Chris combo. Why she insisted on being called Chris I’ll never know. They were very odd in every way.

Wasn’t this the premise of The New Adventures of Old Christine?

I came in here to mention Kelly Hildebrandt (and Kelly Hildebrandt) who married after meeting on Facebook, but it turns out they got divorced.
