Evelyn Waugh’s first wife was named Evelyn. Friends called them “he-Evelyn” and “she-Evelyn.” Gene Kelly was married to a woman named Jeanne. Can you think of any other husband and wife who had the same - or virtually the same - first name?
We’re friends with a couple named Mike and Micki. I know two same-sex couples who share the same first names, too.
Don’t think I know of any famous ones.
I knew a Rick and Vicki–not famous. Also a Chris and Christy–not sure of the spelling of her name(also not famous).
SiL and BiL are Ann and Dan. We call them Annanddananddanandann.
Ingmar Bergman was married to Ingrid Bergman – no, not that one.
I also knew someone named James Joyce (no, not that one). His wife’s name was Joyce Joyce. She must have really loved him.
My old friend Charles is married to Charlotte; they’re both Charlies.
I knew two kids from home who got married. They were Terry Smith and Terry Smith. BEFORE they got married. So I guess she’s now Terry Smith Smith.
I also know a girl named Robin Street who married a boy by the name of Walker. But that’s a different story.
I know an Eli (him) and an Elie (her), pronounced the same (Eh-lee). I’m not sure what those are short for (there are several options for each in Hebrew).
I also knew a Terry who married a Terry but they had different last names.
I also knew a lesbian couple who were both named Julie but that probably doesn’t count.
My first name is the same as my wife’s but without the final a. Like Paul and Paula, though not that. She’s never had any interest in taking my last name, and I don’t blame her.
I’ve known a husband-and-wife couple who are Robin and Robbin (I could never remember which is which), and I’m quite good friends with a gay couple who are both James (middle names have the same initial, even!), but who, luckily, go by Jim and Jamie.
My wife has the feminine version of my male name. We are referred to as the M&M’s.
I have a friend Michael whose partner is also Michael. Neither of them likes to be called Mike. I call his boyfriend “Michael’s Michael” to differentiate them when I talk about them!
I had a friend growing up whose parents were both named Dale.
I know a husband and wife, called Joseph and Joanne, who both prefer to be called Jo.
Not quite the same names, but if you consider “Joan” and “John” to be variants… Johnny Carson’s first three wives were Joan, Joanne, and Joanna.
I guess he gave up on that finally; #4 was Alexis.
Actor Paul Reiser of Mad About You has been married to wife Paula since 1988.
Mr Frog and I have friends Christopher and Kristen, but they prefer Chris and Kris.
I’ve known couples of “Michel & Michelle”, and “Daniel & Danielle” - spelled different but sound the same, at least in French. I’d end up stressing the hell out of the part at the end if I meant the female half of the couple. “Have you seen Danielleuh?”
I know of a Jerry and a Gerry(Geraldine.)
