I’ve been helping a number of users get their subscriptions re-upped and I’m having trouble getting my computer to log out. Sometimes, I’m getting an error that says, “There was an error with your log-out attempt.” Other times it’s simply returning me to the index page.
Unfortunately, like a bozo, I forgot about that issue and signed someone up, logged out, and then posted as them.
I’m using Firefox. Is this a problem with my settings? Anyone have a clue?
I started using Firefox during a hiatus from the board and I’ve had the same problem ever since returning. I haven’t looked into it though, I thought it was because of the board’s new software. But now it sounds like a Firefox thing.
I should have added that I do the same thing imthjckaz mentioned and succeed in logging out that way. It means an extra click when logging out but no big deal.
I wonder if my browser is just freaking out. I get that error and it says, “Click here to log out” but when I click on that, I’m getting an error again that my request timed out.
It’s a weird, frustrating problem when you’re logging in as other people!
Advice for multiple members (family, etc.) using the SDMB on the same computer: Set up separate browser profiles. If you have Netscape/Mozilla/Firecritter, there should be a program in your Netscape start menu folder or Netscape directory called “User profile manager”, or the like. Run that, and it’ll walk you through creating a new profile. I imagine that IE, Safari, and Opera have similar features, but I don’t know how to access them. Then, whenever you start up the browser, it’ll ask you which profile you want to use. Each profile has completely separate cookies, so you never need to worry about logging in or out here or at any other site you both frequent. You also get separate bookmarks, mail settings, and history this way.
This is probably overkill for logging in as someone else once to sponsor them, but for folks who are living together, it’s very practical.
