Hawaii state flag

When I was checking out Mount Rushmore earlier this month I went “Huh?” when I saw Hawaii’s flag. I even checked google to make sure I hadn’t been hallucinating.

The flag of one of your states has a UNION JACK in the corner?! Yes, I saw on http://www.50states.com/flag/hiflag.htm the reasoning behind it; but does anyone down there ever object that a state flag contains the flag of a country that you had a little spat with a couple of hundred years ago?

Seems weird to this crazy canuck.

Doesn’t seem to bother a majority in Georgia for a long time…

Hrrrm? There’s no Union Jack on the Georgia state flag. Or were you seeing instead the Confederate “Stars & Bars” that’s on there?

Right. The Confederate States of America being the “country that [we] had a little spat with” 150 or so years ago. There was a to-do about the battle flag being part of the GA state flag for many years until it was changed to first minimize and then eliminate it.

This is the flag of the Kingdom of Hawaii honoring their discovery by Capt Cook. Suprisingly the white devil landowners did not change the flag after deposing the Queen and allowing the US to annex the islands.

But everything is OK because the US government has said they’re sorry. (Public Law 103-150)
