Nitpick: My phone blasts off if some little girl a state away goes missing…everyone would have some kind of “Super-hero shit is going down, seek cover.” app on their phone whether they liked it or not.
So when everyone was snapped back and Avengers HQ was attacked…everyone would be glued to the screen and their phones would be blaring. Not having a gentle convo in the kitchen.
I’m assuming the kitchen chat was a few hours after the unSnappening, after they’d gotten over the whole, “Holy shit, everyone came back and the Avengers just fought off another alien invasion!” excitement.
Also, they’re not regular people, they’re Russian super assassins. Remaining calm in the face of violent weirdness is both a professional and national trait for them.
Seeing Yelena disintegrate and then instantly reintegrate was cool, but the bit where she could see the paint on the walls changing from white to green didn’t make any sense.
Yeah i guess it makes more sense to have a ‘convo about OUR stuff’ AFTER watching updates on the world-ending event…
“Whewww…ok, now lets get back to us. You should totally become an assassin!!”
It’s too bad SHIELD is gone. Kate would be a good agent.
Yeah. Right.
Is it not? I assumed it “died” after Winter Soldier.
I assume it officially died then, but when it comes to Fury even if he showed you all 54 cards in the deck(that would include both jokers), it would be wise to assume that he was still palming a few…and at least one of them is another joker.
Heck, there’s probably five aces in his deck and a few tarot cards too.
On another note, I’m curious how that other Black Widow broke her mind control. That was weird.
It seems to be back, even publicly, in some form. Supposed SHIELD agents were handling Mysterio and Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Far From Home and no one seemed to question their existence as such.
True, I hadn’t considered that. Skrulls wouldn’t imitate someone who didn’t exist, and they need a model to copy.
Seems like I was right about that. Although we could get a counter-reveal next episode. Only one episode left, though, to tie everything up, so I think we’re going to get a showdown between Kate and her mom, with Kate’s mom getting taken down, and Kate getting properly launched as Clint’s successor as Hawkeye.
I think we also have the premise for Echo’s series, now. It looks like she’s going to be working from the inside to take down Kingpin, and presumably going from villain to anti-hero to actual hero.
So far for Avengers the Next Generation, it looks like we’re going to have Black Widow II, Hawkeye II, and Echo, with Spider-Man as the elder statesman. Since She-Hulk has an upcoming D+ series, probably her as well. And maybe (spoiler for Eternals) the Black Knight.
I had read/seen much speculation that D’Onofrio as Kingpin was coming and probably this episode, but I still SCREAMED. I love him so much!
So, Jack Duquesne? Just a goofy fall guy? Or is there more to him? I really can’t decide if he’s just playing a role is actually a himbo. He keeps having these little moments of being serious.
Probably not She-Hulk. She’s got an established career as a lawyer (assuming they don’t deviate too much from the comics) which makes her a bit old for the “teen/young adult” dynamic of a Young Avengers team. Ms. Marvel’s also got a show coming out, and is much more of a sure thing for a YA team.
Yes. Both. My personal take, which may be way off, course:
I think he is far more capable and competent than he lets on - when he wants to be. But being a himbo isn’t completely an act, either. I think he was grifting Kate’s mom, but she was playing a deeper grift on him. From the dialogue in the first episode, it seems like he’s the black sheep of the Duquesne family, and he’s playing at being a wealthy playboy and living beyond his means. I think he was legit trying to become a kept man, because he just wants a luxurious lifestyle.
But I think he’s due some sort of inheritance when Armand (his uncle?) dies, so Kate’s mom wanted to become his wife to gain an in to…something that has to do with his inheritance from Armand, as part of a larger and deeper scheme of the Kingpin’s. So she counter-grifted him. But then Kate and Clint discovered Sloan, Ltd., so Kate’s mom had to pull the trigger on having him take the fall for that sooner than she wanted to.
But I also think she’s underestimating him, and doesn’t realize he’s more than a grifter, he’s the Swordsman, and there’s some real steel under the himbo exterior. Literally.
He strikes me as being very similar to the character Sam Axe, from the old USA Network series, Burn Notice, who also grifted lonely widows, but was a former Navy SEAL who could still be a total badass when he wanted to be.
The latter is probably going to be on the Young Avengers.
And for all we know, the “arrest” was a sham with Kingpin’s dirty cops playing a role.
The actor, Tatiana Maslany, is 36, so, yeah, she’d be a bit old if they’re trying to do Young Avengers rather than just Avengers the Next Generation. But I don’t think they’re really doing Young Avengers - Kate is mentioned to be 22 a number of times during the series, and Yelena is already a veteran super-assassin. They don’t really have any teen heroes right now, other than Spidey, and he’d be the veteran Avenger of that group (which I think could be a cool dynamic).
Right, I had forgotten her. And she is going to be another teen hero. But I don’t know if she’s going to be an Avenger - she, Captain Marvel, and Monica Rambeau are going to be the Marvels. Of course, Ms. Marvel could be on two teams, or the Marvels might all be Avengers, as well.
“Avenger…what does that even mean”
Exactly Yelena!!
