hawthorne...

Was that really it? I’m being accused of sock-dom?

Cool. I’ve never been involved in a genuine SDMB controversy before.

When’s the hearing?

Let’s get that pesky, spamming troll strung up first!

Not to go all grammar nazi on you or anything, but your sentence is interesting. I think it should be “It seems clear that everyone (including me) is of one mind…”. The verb “is” should match the number (“everyone” is singular), and the pronoun after “including” should be objective case.

Well that settles it. It seems clear that Lobsang is of one mind.

Oh, and everyone else are too.

But you’re good with the parts where he says “including I” and doesn’t put a comma after “what the fuck”?

ETA: Forgot my smiley to indicate gentle ribbing, not genuine aggression.

Only kidding  My way seems correct. I can usually tell when something is wrong because it sounds wrong when I say it back to myself. I’m not saying it IS correct though.

On second thoughts “Everyone are of one mind”… Yep that doesn’t sound right. “We are of one mind” “Everyone is of one mind” They sound right.

I just accidentally a bad grammar. Is this bad?

How does it smell? If it smells bad, it usually is bad.

Right. Who needs verbs? Sorry, I mean who verbs? I sure not!

.

We’re gonna have it right after the double feature, and right before the hanging.

Or possibly t’other way round.

Have I ever told you about the time that a cold, refreshing glass of Diet Coke ™ almost ruined my friendships?

I want to see the movie now. I felt that way the second I read the OP of the original thread. That is why I admit I had a weird feeling it may be a ‘hoax’ OP. But then again, I’m a sucker for Conspiracy Theories. I love them, too, Jack Batty.

ETA: No offense to the OP. I do not go around calling posters trolls or socks or anything like that. Ever. I am just admitting that I found the OP a bit ‘hoaxy’.

Sorry for the double post, but now I can’t remember if I found the post hoaxy, or if it was after hawthorn’s post that I found it hoaxy. I’m usually a bit slow on the uptake.

Whatever. I’m about to watch Zeitgeist.

For what it’s worth, I read the suspicious material in the original OP as sarcastic, and think it could have been clarified with judicious use of quotation marks and roll-eyes.

Like so:

*It all started about six months ago when one friend told me I should see this movie called Zeitgeist and that it will “blow my mind” and “disprove everything I thought to be true in my entire life”. This particular friend has a knack for hyperbole so I threw the statement to the side and didn’t bother. Within the week I had another friend tell me about this life changing movie that everyone should see because “it will change your entire view on life”. Now I am a little curious, TWO claims of a life changing experiences in a WEEK? Maybe I should read a little bit about this movie…

What? This was what was creating the “life changing experience” with my friends?

So after a few more rounds I gave up trying to show them the error of their ways, it felt like a futile effort on my part and our discussions got pretty viscious near the end and in both sides frustration insults were thrown about and nobody was winning so we both sort of silently called off the debate. It was not fun but I feel like I failed in fighting ignorance, I failed Cecil, and what’s worse is I feel this disease spreading across the globe where more and more people seem to have seen this movie and “have had their lives changed or minds blown” and ignorance is spreading. More and more friends have seen it and I try to poke around and find the ones that are a little more cynical about it and show them the light but they are few and far between.*

I’ve seen a fair few truthers along the way, and while I understand the suspicion, Buddha_Clause’s OP does not strike me that way. Those sorts of posts tend to go more along the lines of: “I saw this movie called “Zeitgeist”, and while I don’t believe everything in it, I had a few questions. Have you guys ever heard of Operation Northwoods?”, not “my idiot friends won’t shut up about this stupid conspiracy movie”.

Maybe I’m wrong. Either way, instead of continuing to dick around, let’s cut to the chase.

Buddha_Clause, which of the following describes your view of the events of 9/11?

A) 9/11 was perpetrated by 19 Islamic Jihadists under the aegis of the Al-Quaeda terrorist network. They hijacked four commercial airliners, flying two of them into the twin towers at the World Trade Center, a third into the Pentagon, and crashing a fourth in Shanksville Pennsylvania after passengers attempted to gain control of the plane. The twin towers, damaged by the aircraft collisions and subsequent fires, suffered catastrophic structural failure and collapsed. This collapse caused massive damage and fires in building seven, which caused it to collapse late that afternoon.

B) 9/11 was planned and carried out by the US government/a secrect cabal of Jewish bankers/some other shadowy organization that really runs things in the world. There were no planes/they were drone planes/military planes/whatever. The towers fell in a controlled demolition/were destroyed by space rays/had thermite built into the original structure in the 60s. The Pentagon was hit by a missile, and flight 93 was shot down/landed in Cleveland, and the crash scene in Shanksville was staged. (The MIHOP scenario.)

C) A, but the US knew it was coming (specifically, not “they had intelligence but were too stupid to put two and two together”) and did nothing so they could further their agenda re: the Patriot Act, war in the Middle East, whatever. (The LIHOP scenario.)

D) I don’t know man! I’m just asking questions!

Just answer A, B, C, or D, and we can put all this bullshit behind us.

Let us know if your mind gets blown.

Am I the only one who still doesn’t understand why hawthorne jumped down the OP’s throat?

Apparently this movie *Zeitgeist *is a viral marketing sweat-heart. The last time it came up here, it was nothing but a spammer humping the flick.

**hawthorne’s **got a pretty good memory, it seems.

But you may not want to take my word for it; I’m still trying to figure out if I’m a sock or not.

Ok. I have a confession that I am loathe to admit: I am a sucker for conspiracy theories. I *almost *fall for them, every time. But then, I also completely accept the debunker’s side of the story.

So, yeah… I guess my mind was a bit blown. But as my husband said, my mind is basically built with straw, so blowing it aint that hard.

Intereting how this thread has garnered more attention than the one that spawned it.
