HBO Max comes out May 27.

A new streaming service called HBO Max will launch on May 27.

Here are some of the shows that will be on the service: https://www.hbomax.com/

Are you interested? I think it’ll be a better service than Disney+, simply because it has content that appeals to adults, as opposed to the strictly family-friendly content on Disney+. That, and HBO Max will have more original content.

Wikipedia has a list of original shows that will be available. They will also have a bunch of stuff from TBS, TNT and other Warner channels (so not just HBO stuff). And I think it’s free if you’re already an HBO subscriber.

(BTW, if you’re a Comcast customer, you should also get free access to Peacock, which is NBC’s new streaming service.)

What does this service do that HBO Go and HBO Now don’t already do? Are the former two channels going away? Or is this a third HBO streaming option for some reason?

I’m pretty sure those are going away. They were just streaming options for HBO itself (one for existing HBO cable customers and the other for non-cable subscribers who wanted to watch HBO shows). This adds content from all of the other Time-Warner networks along with original content.

I’m interested, mostly for Doctor Who but it looks like there is lots of other good stuff too.

HBO Go should still exist, since it’s just streaming for HBO subscribers. HBO Now is getting replaced. Some providers are offering HBO Max to HBO subscribers, but not all.

I forgot about that. HBO Max will have, I think, all of the Doctor Who series since the 2005 revival, along with The Office and Top Gear.

I have HBO through a Amazon Prime. I think that means that I just get a bit more extra content.

Actually, I was kind of hoping they’d have the old Doctor Who too. But new Who is better than no Who!
