Sominabitch. I figured Cam Newton would turn the ball over a bit and he didn’t, but in hindsight it was still a bad idea to start the Bucs.
Defenses can be a crapshoot. I didn’t feel good starting the Detroit D against the Saints, so at the last minute I picked up Oakland who was going against Miami.
I was right about the Lions - their defense had minus 2. But Oakland had minus 3.
Of course it didn’t matter because I have CAM NEWTON FANTASY GOD.
Never mind, because I’m in FIRST FUCKING PLACE.
I’m in second place.
I see what you did there.
I just took a quick peek, and it looks like RNATB, Crabby Hermits, and Moridwon (Hamlet) all secured a playoff spot this weekend. With the Hermits putting an epic beatdown on Spiritus, there could be up to 4 teams tied at 8-6 for that last playoff spot (including the Fighting Quakers who, in a battle of "let’s start guys who have been declared out for awhile now, could win despite starting Matt Forte because Varloz started James Starks). Is total points the tiebreaker, or head to head? I should know these things already, but too many leagues makes my head all hurty.
I secured my playoff spot last week, since there were only three teams (you, Mundi, Hermit) within one game.
Pretty sure total points is the tiebreaker. It makes sense if you think about it, since head-to-head only really works if you’re picking between two teams.
Assuming I don’t get 16.4 points out of Beast Mode tonight (probably a 50/50 shot, as he has a plus matchup, has scored 18 or better in four of the last five, and is projected to score 17.39), Mundi will be the #1 seed, you’ll be the #2 seed and I’ll be the #3. If I do get the win, I’ll be the #1 seed and you two will move down a spot each.
The inconsistent but dangerous Wilson/Fourth and Nineteen will almost certainly be the #4 seed. The only thing that could stop him is Doug Baldwin scoring 22 points, which he hasn’t done all season. If that did happen, Weirddave would jump all the way to #4 because Jules has already lost to you.
I’d rather play Wilson than you in the first round, because your team has averaged 10 more points a game over the last 5 weeks, but he has much better Week 15 matchups than either of us.
I think you’re really going to regret trading me V-Jax and Lynch next season. Not including this week, Lynch has slightly outscored Turner since the trade. Harvin has been on fire, and handily outscored V-Jax since the trade, but you would have been winning without him and now you have no keepers*, unless you can keep McFadden.
*Actually, I’m not sure about that. Ellis, if a player is traded, does his keeper eligibility reset?
I went back and looked through my draft grades and was feeling very, very smug until I realized I gave Omni an A on his picks. :o
So, Ash… I admitted I was wrong about the Ravens’ D and Tebow. Are you going to admit I was right about how shitty your running backs were?
I’d be way up if I hadn’t panicked on Laurent Robinson’s questionable status and subbed in Johnny Knox at the last minute. Why did I think starting a receiver in Chicago’s offense against Denver would be a good idea???
Trades have no effect on keeper eligibility. Only hitting the waiver wire does, and that ends it.
Yeah my RBs were a bit (a lot) of a weak point. Wouldn’t have been quite so bad if Desean Jackson wasn’t an idiot and Finley hadn’t been mostly invisible when his quarterback is having a year for the ages and Floyd was stuck with a surprisingly horrible QB. As it is I was in contention for a playoff spot right up to the last week or so, so I guess I can’t complain.
So I make the playoff bracket, but I lose Greg Jennings. Urgh.
Hopefully this week will be one of CJ2K’s rare good weeks.
Mad Hermit set a new high score for the season with 152 points this week, edging Jules’ 150 from Week 8. He’s also posted 100-plus points in the last eight straight games, which nobody else has done at any point. I think he has to be the prohibitive favorite heading into the playoffs, with 115+ in four of the last five. The betting line is 2/5 against.
I’ve scored 105 or better in three straight, and 90+ in each of the last five. On the other hand, I also haven’t had any monster weeks. 3/10 against.
Hamlet has scored 120+ in two of the last three, and 100+ in three of five. Got a 71-point dud in there, though. 1/5 against, though I’d reverse our odds if I was playing Crabby Hermits in the first round.
Finally, Wilson has put up 100+ in two straight, and 90+ in three straight. Like Hamlet, he had a Week 11 dud with 68. 1/10 against.
The head-to-head records are interesting. Hermit has lost to all three other playoff teams, including Hamlet three weeks ago. I lost to Wilson, but beat Hamlet two weeks ago. Wilson knocked off Hamlet in Week 2 in the highest-scoring game of the season, 144-141.
Almost everyone was in contention pretty much until last week. Very close year.
I already regret it. I admit to being surprised that Lynch is doing so well recently, but I was planning on making a run this year and hoping for the best next year. But my plan also included McFadden not being injured (and the Raiders misleading everybody about how serious the injury was) and the healthy return of Andre Johnson, which hasn’t happened either. Those injuries have made my run to the championship this year much more problematic than it should have been. Had I known I’d lose two of my best players for the rest of the year back in week 6, I might have held onto the keepers. Nothing I can do about it now though.
The sad thing this week is that I’m in the playoffs in my big money league, so I’m rooting for Romo, Smith, Bush, and Cosby to have huge weeks, which would kill me in this league. The vagaries of too many teams.
On a short term basis it basically worked out to be a straight swap, and if Turner hadn’t gotten dinged up he would probably have outproduced Lynch slightly. So it’s not that bad. Plus, neither VJ nor Lynch is a tremendous value where I’ll have them next year: Jackson will cost me a 4th rounder and Lynch an 8th rounder. I’ll also be keeping Welker, which will cost a third.
The funny thing is that the player who is most responsible for getting me the #1 seed- Wes Welker- was one of the picks I was least happy about:
I’m less happy about my wideouts. I don’t like Welker and I don’t trust him to stay healthy. Would much rather have had Brandon Lloyd there.
So thanks for stealing my guy, Omni (though Lloyd’s been almost as productive since getting to St. Louis).
The other funny thing is that I traded Vincent Jackson away in the Dynasty league less than a month after I traded for him in this one.
I think I lost a chance to be in the top four when Adrian Peterson got hurt. To that point I was tops in the league in scoring (still somehow a game under .500, go figure…).
It’s especially shitty because this year was really supposed to be my run for the title. Peterson and McCoy was every bit as formidable as I thought going into the season. Just caught that injury at the worst possible time.
Of course, my WRs and Flex did me no favors for pretty much the entire season. Well, okay, Jordy Nelson was a good surprise…
You could have handcuffed him; Gerhart has been pretty productive and was available until the 15th round.
I had both of Jahvid Best’s backups on my roster and still got fucked.
Well, this is worrying.
Just got a 14 point play from Reggie Bush and I’m still down by 18.
Hermit locks up a trip to the championship game. I need 24 from Philip Rivers and V-Jax to join him. Doable, but hardly a lock, especially against Baltimore.
