HE is gay? Who the hell woulda thunk it...

Lassie was gay.
Sorry. Couldn’t resist.
Could someone please tell me which side of the fence does **Hal Sparks ** swing. I adore this guy and he is on Queer as Folk and all I can think is my gaydar is jammed.

Cary Grant?

I believe that Hal is straight. I recall seeing an interview just recently that was discussing the show. He said that what attracted him, as a straight actor, to the material was that it didn’t stereotype anyone, and it allowed him to stretch his acting ability. And also because he knew that a lot of people would stay away from the show, based on its content.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure he makes sure to point that out in every single interview pertaining to Queer as Folk he’s ever done. Of course, I guess it would pretty much have to come up.

I found out on this very board that CNN anchor Anderson Cooper was gay. I might not be that surprising until you note that I’ve had a huge crush on him for a while and never even considered the possibility.

You could’ve painted me green and called me gumby when I learnt that Alan Cumming was gay, I thought it was just him being… very british…

okay and looking at www.famousandgay.com

ALICE COOPER!?!?!?!?!

Jill Sobule performed at my college once, and I hung out with her for a while afterwards. We actually played “Who would you do…”, so she’s one of the few professional entertainers whose sexual preferences I have any special insight into. She may be bisexual (Mick Jagger’s name did come up), but she’s definitely not straight.

Well, damn. I have just recently developed an interest in the fellow. sigh

Okay, I gotta draw the line there.

I’ve been a pretty big fan for nearly thirty years and I’ve never heard a whisper. He’s been married for twenty-five years and on a very recent interview for MuchMore Bio, he claimed to have been faithful for the duration. It’s possible there was someting in the bad old days, but I’d bet it was a VERY long time ago.

Heh. Poking around on that site a little bit, I just learned that “America the Beautiful” was written by a lesbian. <Files that away for future debates on the gay marriage constitutional amendment>

I think the Jodi Foster question has been “out” there forever. I’m anxious to get the real answer, because I’ve been madly in love with the woman since I was like 16, and now that I’m 34, it’s high time I found out if I still have a chance or not.

Whether she’s gay or not…you ain’t gotta chance!

As a (possibly interesting) aside, John Hinkley is my ex-wife’s cousin. I met his mother, and both of his parents sent us a very nice wedding present. This was a couple of years before he shot Reagan. And over the next few years he would occasionally write to my wife from the hospital where he was being held.

What a tragic thing to happen to a very nice family.

I’ll need proof of that statement!

Anyway, I remember when I was probably 20 or so I was expressing my admiration for Johnny Marr and Morissey, and was not surprised in the least to hear the latter was rumored to be a big, depressive poof. However, what floored me at the time was that he was supposedly romantically linked to Michael Stipe. I was like, come on. Get out. Michael Stipe is gay? I felt vindicated when I saw a pic of him kissing Nathalie Merchant, but danged if he didn’t go and out himself a while back as a “queer artist”. I guess my college buds were right all along.

I think the Henry Rollins gay thing may have started because he told this story about a night when a cop forced Henry to give him a blowjob at gunpoint. I mean, that’s how rumors get started.

Uhm. And? Being married (and faithful) to a woman doesn’t mean he isn’t bi. (I have no idea if he is or no, but that’s what the site says he is.) Just means that the person he fell in love with enough to commit monogamously to was a woman.

If, god forbid, something happen that Alice ends up single…the fact that he’s currently monogamous with a woman doesn’t mean that his next serious, monogamous relationship won’t be with a man, or that he won’t ‘mix it up’ a little.

I was surprised to learn that my favorite Magic: The Gathering artist - Terese Nielsen - was gay. I guess I was only surprised because I’m not gay; because aside from enjoying her art, I knew nothing else about her before reading her Wizards of the Coast bio. (My favorite Magic card she’s done is Stalking Tiger.)

Alice Cooper is not gay. But he is a long-time rock & roller who liked to play with sexual imagery - both lyrically and physically. To that extent, he may have experimented in the past. But if he ever did so in the early 80s, he probably wouldn’t remember, considering he was married to the bottle. He hardly remembers the four albums he did during the period.

Anyhoo…

You mean you actually read Books of Blood Volume I without figuring it out? (OK, neither did I - but I was, like, 14 at the time.)

Michael Stipe: I drew the conclusion that he was gay when he talked on UK national radio about how he likes to masturbate a lot.

Jodie Foster: Loopydude, you really don’t have a chance either way. As for her sexuality, the rumours are about because she refuses to comment. She’s got two kids, though.

My prayers have been heard! I am an atheist no more … <off to dance in the street>

Seriously: When Boy George/Culture Club became popular, German teenie magazines would write stuff like “is he gay?”, “there are many rumours about Boy George being gay” and so on. Come on now … are you blind?

Same thing with Freddie Mercury. A handsome guy with really short hair, big mustache, likes to prance around in tight outfits … OK, could be any rock singer in the 80s … BUT HIS BAND IS CALLED “QUEEN” !!! How obvious can you get?

I usually have good gaydar. I heard 1 song by Melissa Etheridge and knew she was gay. Same with Tracy Chapman. When “Fast car” was released in Germany, many people thought it was a guy singing … yeah right.

Strange that you’re all so amazed at Ian McKellen being gay. stereotype alert He seems a classic example of the luvvie actor gay type to me.

I guess the Gandalf connections throws people, as no matter how you try to interprete it, Tolkien wasn’t a very gay-friendly writer.

I’m with the consensus on Alice Cooper- faithfully hetero now, may have crossed over in earlier days. Unless he drops his conservative Christian conversion (or at least heavily modifies it) probably not gonna act on it again.

Arthur C. Clarke!? Granted, I never heard about a Mrs Clarke but I just never thought about him being sexual. L

Years ago, one of my friends worked in Brentano’s (Beverly Hills bookstore) and Arthur C. Clarke came in with his young partner. She noticed that they perused a gay-themed magazine (I think it was Advocate).

Regarding Rock Hudson: I remember people telling me that when I was a kid, but I was incredulous (gay people? In the 1950s? Never!). But I went to some weird old dusty used bookstore on Hollywood Blvd., where they had movie magazines from the '50s and '60s. One of the magazines had a cover story saying, “Doris Day: How she taught Rock how to kiss.” And I thought that was odd. You mean a big macho man like Rock Hudson could reach adulthood and not know how to kiss a woman? That did not compute! (But I hadn’t thought about it deeply—no doubt he knew how to kiss, just not kiss women.)

I probably should clarify the Rock Hudson magazine article: obviously it was bullshit (I am sure Rock could kiss anybody just fine), but it did indicate to me that the rumor about him being gay was pretty open at that time.
