Ok… Kinda a “nasty” subject, but after being sick all night (vomiting:rolleyes:), I have had a headache ever since. I’m not looking for medical advice, but wondering what the connections between vomiting and headaches are. In other words, why do I get a headache after lots of vomiting???
Probably you are dehydrated.
Because you’re sick!
They aren’t necessarily related. It’s just that headaches and nausea seem to be two of the most common reactions of the body to illness, so they often occur simultaneously.
sounds like you might have the onset of possible stomach flu.
the strain of vomiting can definitely bring on a headache. there’s a helluva lot of muscle involved to create the technicolor yawn. it seriously tenses up muscles in your neck and shoulders. low blood sugar from not having any food in your stomach because of the nausea can also contribute.
give some clear soda and saltine crackers a try. it will give you a little sugar and food, and hopefully settle your stomach as well.
If you get migraine headaches, like the ones that I’m “blessed” with, vomiting is often a linked precursor to the pain. In other words, the physiological changes to your body which cause the migraine also caused the vomiting.
If you have really fun migraines, the headaches hurt so much you continue to vomit, sometimes over a period of several hours.
Your head is a closed box with a brain inside. There is fluid around the brain to cushion it. There is blood inside the brain to feed it.
If the brain swells, the cushioning fluid level changes or the amount of blood going to the brain changes, you get a headache.
Sometimes the fluid change is an increase, compressing the brain and squeezing the blood out. This causes an increase in the pressure inside the box, causing nausea and headache.
Sometimes the change is from dehydration. The brain isn’t cushioned enough and blood flow is lower, both of which can cause headaches.
I have to agree with the first reply. Ignoring the situational causes of the vomiting, headaches are a very common result of dehydration. Vomiting dehydrates you.
Better to consult a doctor.
