Headliner 6@6 Poll #36: Post Your 6 Chicago Faves WITH All links to all Past 59 Polls

Subtitled: OK Alex, I’ll take Windy City Bands for $200

First: The Who’s, What’s, Where’s & Why’s of the Headliner Poll

As per 5 time champ’s request & in an attempt to squeeze as many bands in the shortest amount of time possible, The Monday 6 @ 6 Polls include a Headliner poll. This Chicago (Transit Authority) poll, like the featured Sheryl Crow thread will be closed and tallied 7 days from today, Monday January 27, 2003 at or about 6PM EDT. Results from all polls will be posted a few minutes later on that same day in Week #37’s featured Cracker 6 @ 6 Poll.

Why you ask? After the ZZ Top poll, sometime this decade, the plan is to compile all the votes from the SDMB & post them in a few threads. Then I’ll burn a several volume CD set & mail ‘em out to the voters who helped keep these threads going.

Second: Links to the 59 artists we’ve already closed polling on

Third: The Poll & How it Works

It’s simple enough, post your 6 favorite songs by the artist. Personal observations, opinions, liner notes, comments and the like are always welcome but are in no means required. You May include Cover Versions and of course, duets or other offshoot projects. If you specify Live version, it will be noted, but tallied together with the studio version of the same title.

The All Music Guide service is meant to refresh your “101 knowledge” of the artist. Please refrain from voting for tracks based solely on the 15 second sound clip. If you have the time, perhaps you’d like to add your 2 cents to their Music Expert Check

Lastly: The Headliner Poll Artist of the Week

Without further ado…The 2nd Most Popular American Rock-n-Roll Band?!? (That’s news to me): Chicago.

Here are my 6 CHICAGO selections:

  1. Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?
  2. Beginnings
  3. Livin’ In The Limelight (Peter Cetera Solo)
  4. 25 Or 6 To 4
  5. Make Me Smile
  6. I’m A Man

So, do you have 6 faves? Will 26 or more dopers vote? If so, will 25 or 6 to 4 surpass Elvis Costello’s “Watching the Detectives” and become the new song title with the most votes (so far). There’s always that chance. Those answers and much more next week, same Eastern Standard Time, same web address.

Thanking you all in advance I hope to see you at the Sheryl Crow & Jim Croce polls. Have a great week!

  1. Wishing You Were Here
  2. Alive Again
  3. Saturday in the Park
  4. Old Days
  5. 25 or 6 to 4 (original version)
  6. (I’ve Been) Searchin’ So Long

Most of Chicago’s work stinks and they did nothing of interest after their second album. However, their first two albums did show something.

  1. Ballet for a Girl in Buchanan (most people only think of its component parts, but it does have three of their top songs in it)
  2. 25 or 6 to 4
  3. Make Me Smile (from Ballet)
  4. Color My World (from Ballet – much better in context than stand alone)
  5. Now More Than Ever (also from Ballet)
  6. I’m a Man (decent cover, but not up to the original)

#6- Look Away
#5- I’ve Been Searching So Long
#4- Beginnings
#3- Wishing You Were Here
#2- Hard to Say I’m Sorry
#1- Feeling Stronger Every Day

  1. Feelin’ Stronger Every Day
  2. If You Leave Me Now
  3. 25 or 6 to 4
  4. Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?
  5. Saturday in the Park
  6. Along Comes a Woman

Thanks John, I thought maybe you had forgotten.

Okay, their music hasn’t aged well. They haven’t relased a decent album in almost 30 years [though I could say the same thing about The Rolling Stones. And, who puts out double albums anymore?

  1. 25 or 6 to 4

  2. Ballet for a Girl in Buchanon

  3. Beginnings

  4. I’m a Man

  5. Southern California Purples

  6. Colour My World [the stand alone version was certainly popular in high school in the early '70s]

In no particular order, because ranking them would be next to impossible (as if narrowing them to 6 was easy?) And a couple of my favorites are labeled as “suites”, encompassing 4 or 5 tracks on the CD label, but actually just one piece, and some have radio edits, so…gah, Chicago is not really suited for a 6 “track” selection I guess. Anyways, I’ll try to pick standalone tracks.

  1. Liberation
  2. Beginnings
  3. Make Me Smile
  4. At the Sunrise
  5. 25 or 6 to 4
  6. A Hard Risin’ Morning Without Breakfast
  1. Hard to say I’m sorry
  2. 25 or 6 to 4
  3. I’m a man
  4. If you leave me now
  5. Wishing you were here
  6. Feeling stronger every day
  1. Saturday in the Park
  2. Beginnings
  3. I’m A Man
  4. Make Me Smile
  5. Wishing You Were Here
  6. 25 or 6 to 4
  1. Feeling Stronger Every Day
  2. Wishing You Were Here
  3. 25 or 6 to 4

  1. Beginnings (esp. Stanford Band extended Picnic Day version)
  2. 25 or 6 to 4
  3. I’m a Man
  4. Shoot. I’ve heard their music and I know I like some of their stuff better than the rest of my list, but I’m not familiar enough to know song names, so this will have to do :

  6. Saturday in the Park

6 - Colour My World
5 - Wishin’ You Were Here
