Heavy metal guitarist dead? It's his own fault for playing Satan's music!

Anyone know anything about a self-proclaimed website called the Iconoclast? Please tell me it’s either a parody site, or a blog created by one nutjob. Because otherwise, the sheer gall and tastelessness of an article like this is almost too much to bear.

What a slap in the face of Darrell Abbott and his family. What a waste of good electrons.

I think we can safely say “whoosh”…

Yes, I can see that, but I’m taking a look at the home page, and there’s enough serious looking content there that I can imagine that this site lampoons liberals while still remaining fairly serious in other areas.

Which is why I was asking in the first place.

But he said something in Latin! That means he must be smart!

Seriously, I didn’t read anywhere close to the whole article, but I browsed the site’s homepage (very) briefly and my take is that it’s probably satire.

One more thing: I’ve read reports of angry, flaming posts on this site’s message board being removed. If this were a satire site, I would imagine that those posts would be the LAST thing they’d want to remove.

You do know that in the past The Onion has been quoted by other media outlets. Not to mention the furor they caused with their homosexual recruiting drive story. The more real it seems, the funnier it is.

I can’t speak to that site, but I’ve definitely seen people expressing that opinion.

This is not satire.

Maybe I’m getting old, but every year I get more tired of crap like this. “I’m pretending not to blame the victim, but let me explain why it’s his fault: blah blah blah blah blah.” Yick.

While I didn’t give the site the most thorough going-over, it seems like right-wing nutjobbery, not humor.

After going through all the articles on the front page in a cursory fashion, I don’t think it is satire. If it is, it is bad and in very poor taste. I personally think that it is serious.

Perhaps a slower internet connection would help you to understand. If the page loads slowly, a placeholder shows up for the big “iconoclast.ca” banner – it says “conservative humor.”

The point being that they think some of this stuff is funny because it isn’t true, and they think some of it is funny because they think it is true.

Nametag: So are you saying that it’s not serious, but it is?

Wonder which way the linked editorial goes, then…

The article says a lot of mean things about metal fans and about Dimebag Darrell; I think it falls into the “they think it’s funny because they think it’s true” category.

What the hell is that yutz doing in the .ca top level domain?

Is this an extremely confused Canadian or someone who doesn’t meet the Canadian Presence Requirements for the domain?

Sheesh.

The author is definitely serious and definitely doesn’t possess a sense of humor. Somehow, though I mourn the passing of one of the hardest-hitting guitarists in the biz, I still found it in me to laugh at the jerkoff.

Anyone with his head this far up his ass you gotta pity.

RIP Dime.
