Disclaimer: Many Christians I’m sure don’t believe in censorship. Second disclaimer: I wrote this post while still steaming. That’s why it’s in the Pit.
Ok on with the pitting.

I used to always visit this website:

Some of you might know it. It was a funny, satirical parody of Christianity. Basically it took everything in the bible literally. I have read the Bible, at least the Old Testament. Many people follow it in many different ways, and what right to do I have to criticize unless it’s directly hurting me? But on the same token, what right does anyone have to criticize anti-religious humor? The site was humor, and it was on the Internet. Now it’s been replaced by this:

Let me emphasize that I have no problem with Christians not liking the site. No let me take that back. I do. The site pointed out a lot of hypocrisies in the Christian religion, things that personally I think all Christians should at least think about. But I am not going to tell them they should have to look at it, or even think about it.

My major complaint here is: Why do they think this will win me over? I know many christians are probably cheering that Landover Baptist was taken off the 'Net but all I can think is

I tried to start an e-mail to the new site but I really am so pissed off right now that I decided to leave it for later, when I was calmer. I know there are lots of reasonable Christians out there but there are so many that think I shouldn’t even look at anti-Christian stuff. And why not?

HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO MAKE AN EDUCATED DECISION IF I CAN’T SEE BOTH SIDES?

OK. cooling down a little. This just blows my mind. Now if we can’t laugh at religion and poke fun at it, like we do everything else in the world, then I think we have a serious problem. You see, I think humans only survive through our humor. I think if we didn’t have that we’d all just die of despair.

Man I’m still seeing red. Going to go home and have a drink and try not to think about it.

P.S. I am sorry for typos. I’m normally a very calm person; for me to be this steamed is unusual.

Was that the conclusion of the Lambuel website last time it was pitted, Gobear? I have to admit, if it’s a joke, it’s so deadpan that I can’t detect it.

Please let it be a joke. Please let me be the dumbest Doper alive. But I went through the site (not thoroughly, but several clicks) and it looks pretty in-depth to be a joke.

OK. I will restrain my ire until tomorrow. If it is a joke, it should be revealed then.

Satire is just too subtle for some folks.

Grr. This is exactly why I’m not subscribing to this place. Because you make a mistake and what do people do? They come on and they insult you. If it was making fun of me, that’s one thing, but is it necessary to call everyone dense?

And Gobear is definitely not the only who pulls this kind of thing. Aldebaraan (I believe that’s the one who says “Salaam” at the end of his posts) has a lot of comments that I don’t agree with, and many other people also don’t agree, but what do they pick on time and time again? His language skills. Despite the fact that he has said English is not his first language.

And I apologize if aldebaraan is not the poster I am thinking of.

I can see missing the joke from the opening page but if you click on kidz it’s a little more clear that it’s a joke.

Go down to the bottom of that page and read Professor Giraffenstein. It’s frickin hilarious.

Speaking for myself, I don’t have the time, or the patience to look at what appear to be religious websites for long periods of time…I have a job, y’know? So I glanced at the homepage, saw pictures, it looked legit and I asked whether or not it was satirical.

I of course came back to a completely over-the-top response, but that’s beside the point.

No, no whooshing going on, but I really should refrain from taking anything gobear says personally. I should doubly ignore anything he says with a headache, a headcold and a chapped nose from sneezing. I would then be inclined to take everything, everyone says personally.

Blaming other people for your own actions, very nice.

Even though you have been here as long as I, maybe you’ve never seen any of the umpteen Landover threads discussing its authenticity. Maybe you didn’t know today is April 1, a date often associated with jokes and tricks. If do, I sincerely apologize.

But you should take responsiblity for your behavior and not blame me for the contents of your post.

And maybe you should stick to IMHO and MPSIMS. You seem to be too delicate a hothouse flower for the rough environment of the Pit.

Gawd, he said first, without snark, “It’s a joke.” It’s a heavily deadpanned April Fool’s joke from a site well known for heavy deadpannery. When you questioned his conviction, I can see why he’d get exasperated and use the word “dense.” I wouldn’t call it over the top.

I don’t see where that merits him being called an asshole and a fucking dick for being sure that yes, indeed, it was a joke.

Or am I being whooshed and you’re pulling a heavily deadpanned April Fool’s joke on us, now?
