This is so very sad. I thought it was a joke at first. Those of you who know me, know that I am Christian. But this is horrible. And I feel so sad for the boy. And the mother just allows this? How? That superintendent says, “I smacked that boy so hard, I dented my wedding ring.” He should be thrown in jail. And they seem proud of themselves!
As I kept reading this, I would glance at the link, certain I was reading an Onion article. This is real?!?!

The Landover Baptist site is SATIRICAL. Always has been. Always will be.
Landover Baptist is easily the best satire site on the net because everything is so believeable. Don’t feel bad, I’ve seen many many people think that it’s real.
Well, I was going to point out that it’s a humor site, but on preview, I see that I am thoroughly beaten to the punch.
Whoa! I feel so much better. As I was reading the site, I was wondering. The thing is, I’ve known too many people like that, so I couldn’t figure out if this was real or not. There are people who would go along with the viewpoints that are being mocked here, so I figured this was their website! Glad to be wrong.
The scary thing is that, though Landover’s material is clearly outrageous, it’s hard for many first-timers to tell that it’s satire. That says a lot about certain real-life fanatics. Just wait until they put up their Halloween “Hell-house” material (if they haven’t already). I guarantee you the actual Hell-houses where I live will be just as outrageous, if not more so.

For someone going across that site for the first time, I can see where it could be taken for real as there are people who do think this way. When you have nutjobs like Fred Phelps in this world, sometimes you expect to find things like this.
Besides, if you did know Heloise, you would know she is a Christian and not some “secular liberal” as you put it. There is no need to be so insulting.

They write their own songs, play their own instruments, do their own singing, and play live concerts that are LIVE. That’s more than what some “real” bands do. The members are playing characters, but so are Alice Cooper and Madonna.

It took me a while to be sure that Landover Baptist was a satire, even though I thought it was the very first time I saw it. Obviously I’m not the only one.
Why? Because, contrary to your smug little view of the world, there ARE Christians like that, and quite a few of them in some parts of our lovely little nation. I know - I live in one. According to your profile, you’re fairly nearby - so you’re either self-blindered by your hypocritical arrogance or you’re intentionally being a jerk.
Are all Christians like that? No, they’re not, as I’ve come to realize by interacting with some who are not.

Which part of this quote from me did you misunderstand? And which part of the OP did you not understand about me being Christian? Having grown up in the Bible belt, with extreme fundie Southern Baptists, I have actually witnessed this type of behavior. So, before you judge someone else’s misunderstanding, I would suggest that you go out and experience the real world and how some people may give themselves a title but not necessarily live up to it.
