Heiz 57

I had heard the term heinz 57 used to refer to
dogs that weren’t pure bred, as in ‘mix’. Have you
ever heard it used like this? And when did this expression
start being used to mean mutt?

That your dog might have 57 varieties in its pedigree is a funny joke the first few times you hear it, like all jokes. I think it’s older than the “Why did the armadillo cross the road?” joke, but it’s younger than the “Why did the chicken cross the road?” joke.
