Aw, man, that just totally sucks. I don’t think you should blame yourself - I mean, it sounds like you’re the kind of guy who would be saddened by it even if you were not the driver of the car - so there is no doubt it was an unintentional accident. And it must have been heartbreaking to see that kitten. But not your fault, okay? These things happen. Hope you get to feeling better soon.
Not just in Minnesota. When I was growing up in middle Georgia, we had a stub-tailed cat that got that way from sleeping on the hood. We didn’t know she was there, and when the engine started, the fan blade caught her tail.
It really is hard sometimes.
Aw, man, that sucks. I did the same thing a few years back (there’s a MPSIMS about it which I won’t bother to link to). Obviously an accident, as was Baker’s, but feeling responsible for that kind of thing casts a pall over one’s life for a while. Makes me blue just thinking about it.
Sometimes crappy things just happen, y’know?
I say this as a cat lover, believe it or not.
I am sure you feel terrible and it makes me feel sad to think of it. I’d feel awful too. But you know, your accident may have spared that kitten a very hard and uncertain life. You did what you could to make its life here better, by feeding its mom, but if that kitten had survived any of the many other risks to its life, it may have suffered in a lot of other ways.
Its an example of trying to do a good deed but creating some bad consequences.
On one side, Baker fed the little guys and most likely supported their livelyhood. Some me not have survived without the handout.
On the other side, the food lured them to a hostile environment (cars rolling around).
I look at it this way, Baker didn’t necessarily take two kitty lives as much as prolong them and give them a greater chance for survival.
The results, though, came at high cost for Baker’s piece of mind.
You gave it a valiant effort Baker, but I agree. Its time to let animal control take over.

Baker, I’m so sorry that this has happened. I just checked my mail and will close this thread, as requested.
