My wife and I got a kitten a couple of weeks ago or so. We named him Jamie. When we got him he was about two and a half months old.
Long story short, my mother, who’s helping me take care of my disabled wife, has a motorized chair that lifts and lowers. The kitten was under the chair, so my mother said she’d just get up and not use the controls. To help her I lifted the chair up myself, and then lowered it. Apparently when I lowered it I crushed the kitten’s neck. It’s lets were sprawled like maybe it was trying to run out and I caught him before he could escape.
Anyway, in my attempt to keep him safe, I killed him. He was the best cat I’ve had in a long time and I can’t believe I was so stupid. My wife is taking this very hard.
Well, I know one thing not to do if we ever get another small kitten. :smack:
Yeah, I’m going to try and not dwell on this. My only problem is what to do with the cat. My wife will probably want him buried, but our yard isn’t great for digging, and I have two cats buried at the side of the house already, one died from old age, and the other was my mom’s cat who died from diabetes. My mom’s cat was huge and I had a hard time digging, so some of the plastic bag sticks up a little. Oh well, the kitten was small. I guess I can force myself to dig one more hole.
Thanks. Yeah, the fact that it’s my fault doesn’t help. It’s time like this I really wish I had a time machine or something. Oh well, as **Alice **said I’ll just have to Grieve and move on.
There was a thread on here not too long ago about pet accidental deaths.It sure happens a lot. My SIL accidentally ran the family cat through the dryer, my friend’s daughter accidentally stepped on her kitten, her brother shut the heavy front door on a kitten, and my terrier dog pounced on one that startled him and killed it in one bite. Sorry to hear about your kitty. I’m off to go pick up some foster kittens at the shelter today. Of the dozens we’ve had over the years, 10 have died natural deaths, and one died accidentally (described above). The shelter’s owner says that her own dogs have done the same thing by mistake. Go get another kitten (or cat).
I’m ready but my wife isn’t. And when we get another cat she’s worried that if we get one that young again something similar will happen to it. I’m going to wait a little while for my wife’s sake.
Wow. That is a very sad story.
I saw the thread on ‘New Posts’ and was NOT going to read it because I love animals and today has sucked already big time, but the damned thing just kept showing up so I decided to read it.
Now I am depressed.
And my cats are at home and I am at the lab.
At least they are OK.
Or they were when I left this morning.
Nobody, it is obvious that this was just a sad mistake.
I wish you and your better half well, and hope you will give another cat a chance to be your master sometime soon.
