I just sat on my cat. Help Me.

I stood up to adjust my computer and my silent little four month old kitten hopped onto my chair and I sat on her! She squawked and pooped and now she hisses rather than come near me or let me near her. And she’s walking kind of funny.

I feel silly saying this, but I’m really scared that I may have hurt her badly. I suppose a vet visit is in order, but will she be okay? What should I do to calm her down? Is she going to hate people forever?

Help.

Myron

Poor kitty. Try to calm her down with treats if you have any, or maybe open a can of tuna (only feed her a little bit, though). If (when, hopefully) she comes to you, pet her very gently and if she bites you, just take it. Normally I wouldn’t encourage that, but she probably has more than a little stress to work out at this point.

Definitely call the vet in the morning.

I am only a student vet, but my advice for what it’s worth:
Go to the vet, your kitten could just have bruising but could also have internal injuries or broken ribs/leg/pelvis.
Your kitten’s reaction to you may partially be due to pain.
If she isn’t dead yet, chances are she will eventually be ok, but the sooner she sees a vet the better, both for her peace of mind, and yours.
You may not be able to calm her down- if you can’t catch her to put her in a box to take to the vet, i suggest tossing a towel over her and scooping her up, then putting her in a box or pillow case.

Cats don’t have a long memory. You will probably discover that when she is no longer in pain she will be a little more amenable to overtures of friendship, and you will be able to win her trust back (especially if you’re the one who feeds her

Hope the kitty is ok.

oh, and don’t feed her for 6 hours before you go to the vet- if she has to have sedation to be x-rayed or anything she can’t have had food in the previous 6 hours.

You need to get that kitty and have a look at her. If she pooped, you definitely exerted some pressure on her. If she is walking funny and hisses a lot, she may be injured. You need to pick her up and feel her for broken bones. Fortunately, kittens are very elastic. Their bones take quite a while to solidify. None-the-less, grab her and give her a once-over. Broken bones can sometimes be felt. They will feel out-of-joint or oddly-placed.
If your kitten throws up, that can be a sign of internal problems, as can blood in her stool.
You may want to check your phone book for 24-hour emegency vets. They are a tad more expensive than a regular vet, but in the case of a young kitten, it might pay to be a bit overly-cautious.
On a lighter note, if she is physically okay, she will probably warm back up to you in a few days. Animals are pretty forgiving. Typically, only prolonged abuse makes them anti-social.

Get to a Vet. Now. She’s probably fine but needs to be checked out. Is she purring constantly? That’s a sign that she’s distressed.

I feel for you - try to remind yourself it was an accident, and there’s nothing you could have done. She’ll forgive you after a while, when you’ve earned it.

I squawk and poop sometimes, too.

Lieu? Is that you?

On a more serious note, my husband closed our kitten’s foot in a door when she was a wee tot. She cried (and so did he). She was walking funny, too. We were going to take her to the vet, but after a couple hours, she seemed to get over it. It’s very scary to see such a little kitty in distress. But accidents happen and you just have to deal with it. Good luck to you and the little softie!

Let us know how she is, The Man Who.

Reminds me of a story from Korea a few years back. We were sitting on my friends 2nd story balcony & his kitten was walking along the top of the wall that goes around the edge. All of the sudden the kitten disappeared.

We run to the edge and look over. The kitten is lying on the ground not moving. So we all run down the stairs & my friend scoops up his kitten and carries it back up stairs.

The kitten just kind of layed their twitching, then started pooping. We thought for sure the kitten was a goner. After about 1/2 hour the kitten kind of shook it off & was up and moving around normally.

I guess that’s were cats get their reputation for having 9 lives.

Hopefully your cat will shake it off.

When I read the title, I took it as you needed the help–not the cat. I guess that comes from the time I sat on our cat when I was about 7 years old. He was an extra large alley cat that adopted us one day and then just hung around. He was very friendly with people, but he terrorized any other cat in the neighborhood, and several dogs as well.

Anyway, I got up to change the channel (yes, I’m that old), and the cat took my place. I didn’t notice. Yeeooarrr! In a fraction of a second, I was bitten and clawed quite thoroughly.

As I recall, the cat took off somewhere while I surveyed the damage. My mother applied mercurochrome (sp?). I guess I’m lucky I didn’t get some kind of cat-scratch disease.

Anyway, the cat came back and stayed for a couple more years until we got a dog. I guess he couldn’t abide sharing space with a canine.

Oh, yeah. I hope your kitten is OK.

Hey - it’s a cat! It’s not like it’s a supermodel or somebody famous or something.

Oh, please let us know how the kitten is!

:frowning:

When my cat fell out of a six story window, he pooped.

But it was clear he was messed up.

Poor Ziggy. Now I’m feeling sad.

:frowning:

Go take the cat to a vet. It’s probably not a big deal, but it may be.

they do. they’re simply forgiving… if you ever sit on her again the relationship’s over.

BTW, a lot of cats poop when they’re very scared - my friend’s cat did when she met my cat, because my cat is a mean mofo, and my friend’s cat is a pussy (<= DYSWIDT?).

My cat has pooped when she was scared, too, so that might be all that is. But the fact that she is walking funny is why she needs to go to the vet ASAP. You don’t want to find out she was bleeding internally after that. On the positive side, if she recovers, she’ll be less likely to just stay there when she sees your rear coming down toward her.

I poop when I’m scared or nervous, too.

I have 3 more you can sit on if you wish…

The pooping, furniture scratching, curtain climbing wastes of oxygen…

Did you take the kitten to the vet?
