I will never ride in a car with you during scary ass rush hour traffic in a big city.
I just hope the kitten is alright.

Just how big is your ass?
Imagine it from the kittens point of view. Looking up and seeing all that ass coming down on you and you can’t escape, you’d probably poop as well.
Yes, you should take her to a vet. And no she will not hate you forever. I step on my cat’s paws on accident all the time, but she knows that I mean no harm and that I’m a clutz and forgives me everytime. But she screams when it happens. Poor girl.
Welcome to the SDMB, phraser! I’m in vet school, too!
The continuing story.
First of all, she’s acting pretty much back to normal. As you can see, it was about 3 in the morning when the accident happened, and I was SERIOUSLY distraught. This is my first kitty, and of course, I saw the poop, and thought, “Oh, hell, my giant ass just flattened her like a tube of toothpaste.” I was so scared I was crying. She didn’t take to the crying, and got all hair-in-the-air, spitting, where-are-your-ears-oh-there-they-are-completely-flattened-against-your-head. So I clammed up and just let her be for a while. She got into her chair about six feet from where the computer is and just sat there and stared at me.
I decided I’d just go to bed, and she just sat in her chair following me with her eyes from the living room to the bathroom to the bedroom. Finally I shut out all the lights and went to her chair and carried her into the bedroom and set her in her box of blankets (she’s allowed to sleep on the bed with me, but I didn’t think she’s want to.
I laid there reading, too nervous to sleep, eyes alternating between the pages and the pussycat, who was still staring at me. Then she got out of her box and leapt onto the bed. That was a very positive sign. How bad could she be hurt, if she can still manage that jump? Then she walked up to me, laid her little kitty head on my shoulder and her little paw on my arm and I was forgiven. It had gone from “You hurt me, go away.” to “I’m hurt; comfort me.” Then she climbed onto my chest, plunked herself between me and my book, and it was “I’m the cat; pay attention to me” again.
Whew. I don’t know when I’ve felt that relieved.
I fell asleep about four, and have now been awake for about an hour. I’m still going to take her to the vet, but she seems fine. Maybe a little more anxious than before, or maybe I’m the one who’s more anxious.
Thanks all for your kind words and concerns.

Yep. Take her to the vet. You never know and these creatures cannot talk
I hope she is okay…
Am I the only one who pictures The Man Who as that big dog from the old WB cartoon that adopts the little kitten but tries to keep it secret from his owner?
Thanks for the update, I am releived. Let us know if anything comes up though, OK?
I do hope she’s ok. Let us know how she is!
Just one word: AAAAAAWWWW!!!
What is Kitty’s name?
Glad to hear she was okay-and that you’re being sure.
And yes, cats poop themselves when scared. And sometimes they pee themselves. The last time we took Buffy and Gypsy to the vet, on the way back, they both peed in their carriers simultaneously. Imagine it-a really hot, humid day, yowling felines and being trapped in a hot, stuffy car that smells like cat pee.
Mark Antony. That’s a good one. I always get choked up when he thinks she’s been baked into a cookie, and he puts the cookie on his back.
Just got back from the vet, and the worst thing wrong with Alex (that’s her name) is that she got rained on through her carrier when I was carrying her to the car. The vet said everything checked out, and basically echoed all the advice you’all gave me, said it was good to get her looked at, but that she’d forget all about it after the initial stress wore off.
Once again, thank you everyone from a panicked daddy.
Postscript: I just went looking for her, and couldn’t figure out where she was. I walked into the entry way-not there. Checked the bedroom-nope. Back into the living room, and there she was.
Sitting on the computer chair.
Things are back to normal in Hazzard County.
very glad she’s ok and glad she’s forgiven you so quickly…cats are good that way - then sense when someone intentionally harms them and they aren’t so forgiving, but they seem to know when it was accidental
Good thing she’s got 8 lives left.
I’m glad to hear that Alex is all better! And what an adorable cat!
Now, not to hijack your thread, but…
Is this true? I have a cat, Salem, who is 18 months old and pretty much purrs A LOT. I mean, she doesn’t do it non-stop…but she does for most of the time she is awake. She’s always done this since she was a wee baby. I always thought this meant she was super happy. Could she just really hate me?
I’m so relieved all is well
When I was 19, I accidently stepped on my kitten. I didn’t see her but she was right behind me while I was packing to move. I was barefoot so not only did I hear it but I felt her bone break. It was in the middle of the night too, but I rushed her to an emergency vet.
She ended up with a cast on her little leg. It never slowed her down. The new apt had a flight of stairs and she’d run up and down them with the cast going klunk klunk klunk on each step. After 6 weeks, the cast was removed and she was as good as new.
Welcome to your new habit of easing down slowly into your chair - I learned this after sitting on an adult cat more than once. Nothing quite so dramatic, but enough to make me move into position slowly. I even had a cat attempt to steal the chair out from under my behind, and then try to play “chicken” as I slowly moved down (watching the cat’s reaction) and she wouldn’t want to move but was looking obviously perturbed that I wasn’t honoring her chair swipe.
Oh man, Buffy sleeps on my computer chair at night-she REFUSES to sleep with someone on their bed. I started putting her on my chair at night because otherwise, she’d sleep on the floor or on the steps.
So at night, when I’m winding down on my computer time, she’s always trying to steal my chair. Fortunately, the chair is black, and she is orange.
So now I’M nervous.
Alex is soooo cute!!!
I just want to say, for anyone who doesn’t know, that you can take a cat to the vet any time of the day or night.
Almost any town large enough to have several vets will have a rotating emergency system. When you call your vet’s office, you’ll be given an emergency number to call. This will route you to whichever vet is on duty that night.
Also, if you look through the yellow pages, many vets list an emergency number for after hour problems.
I thought I would pass this along. I had to figure it out in a blind panic once.
And I’m glad to hear your cat is all right!
SO pleased to hear nothing’s damaged.
I’ve been fretting about this all day.
Not that she hates you, no way. But cats also purr when they are injured. We think it is so mom knows they are hurt, and can find them. So besides- “I am happy, warm & contented”, it is also “I am hurt, help me”.
