Hello, At the very bottom of the screen it shows “you may edit your posts”. However regardless of the time lapse; only once have I seen the edit button.
OK, that’s odd. The above post shows the edit button available. The post I just entered, under the thread: Poll: favorite numbers, does not. Nor has any post shown the button for days. I always want to tweak.
Are you getting accidentally logged out, perhaps? That occasionally happens on this board. When I’m logged in the edit button is always there for the first 5 minutes.
I guess it is possible; however whenever I post it shows as me. Then I go right back and there’s no button.
I’m pretty sure the “you may edit your posts” at the bottom just indicates that the edit feature is turned on with the SDMB’s configuration of vBulletin.
However, I’m also pretty sure there’s a time limit. Maybe 10-15 minutes after submitting the post? One of the arguments against editing in the past was to prevent someone (probably mainly in Great Debates) from changing words / arguments after people have rebutted.
The time limit lets you fix typos you notice after posting (and we all do) or add extra information you remember just after hitting “Post”, but blocks egregious re-writing of your entire post history.

Well, CT_Damsel did specifically say “regardless of the time elapsed” so I’m pretty sure she knows there’s a limit and also mentions that it happens immediately after posting but I guess you guys could be right and she’s just having blackouts or something. lol.
Yep, blackouts, lost weekends, missing marbles. I never said I was perfect.
In that case, maybe the board is doing you a favor by not letting you edit your own posts.

Seriously, though, next time this happens go to the top of the screen and see if it still says “Welcome, CT_Damsel” up there or if there’s no a little text box waiting for you to input your ID. The board seems to log me out at random intervals. It’s just possible it has happened to you immediately after posting by coincidence.
I must be vigilant and post only after much considered thought. . .or I could just remember that 1. no one gives a crap who I am (can I say crap? I hope so) and 2. without a court order you can not find out who I am.
