Hell's Kitchen Season Finale

Jen & Matt - move to a different career. Who in the Hell would ever hire either one? Well, unless it was strictly as a publicity freak show.

The winner surprised me.

As people are saying in the thread for last week’s episode, Petrozza probably lost for a combination of running out of appetizers and simply for being old.

I’d love to revisit both of them in a year and see who’s doing better. A Hell’s Kitchen win hasn’t exactly been a career boost for any of the previous seasons’ winners.

From Season 1: Michael Wray got thw switcheroo - instead of winning the “million dollar” restaurant that had been promised all along, the prize morphed into going to London to work with Ramsay. Even then, he wound up not going.

Season 2: Heather West thought she was winning the position of executive chef at the Red Rock Hotel and Casino, with a hand in the restaurant’s desin. Instead, she wound up as a senior chef - not too far different than a sous chef, actually, and for only one year. She’s now cooking fairly anonymously as a chef in Washington.

Season 3: Seeing a pattern yet? Rock was head chef at Green Valley Ranch, but is no longer in that position as the one-year contract has elapsed. Now, he seems to be handling PR for the casino.

Seriously, Matt and Jen were SO bad that I suspect that they were plants by Ramsey to sabotage the finalists. Matt didn’t even seem to be pretending to care.

The next time I’m in L.A., I won’t be seeking out “London” as a place to eat. I would have if I knew it only as a Gordon Ramsey place, but adding Christina (or Petrozza or any of the others) makes it a place I would avoid.

I wonder if an unintended consequence of Ramsey’s constant abuse (which makes for good television) might be a failure of his restaurants? It certainly worked that way for me. I don’t want any Hell’s Kitchen contestant anywhere near my food.

gotpasswords it looks like it’s actually "senior sous chef " this year for Christina:

Although they kept saying “executive chef” on the show they kind of signaled the true position last week when they met the chef they’d be reporting to - the executive chef of Ramsey’s New York restaurant, if I recall correctly.

I don’t mind Ramsey’s abuse, I’ve seen him on other things and he can be charming. What almost put me off restaurants altogether (and his specifically) is all the touching of the food without ever showing any hand washing. Last night alone I saw three people touching their hair while in the kitchen being encouraged to touch the food to make sure it’s done. Ick.
