Help! Everquest anonymous

Hey folks I need help. My bf, Sqrlcub, is addicted to the online role-playing game Everquest. It consumes his every waking moment.

He probably would play the game 24/7 if he could. As it is, most of his time at home is spent online and when he isn’t, he is thinking about it…planning strategy, who he is going to kill, etc., etc.

It even got to the point where he promised to play on 2 hours a day, but that lasted until the signed on again.

Does anyone else have this problem? How did you handle it?

I first talked to Dewt about it…pointed out that I thought the time spent on online gaming was getting out of hand, obsessive, etc…

he denied this, really couldn’t see it, I was just ‘nagging’…he was in such denial…I mean, this guy’s summer schedule last year consisited of his being up and gaming until 4am every night…he would come home for lunch, and game for a ‘few hours’…go back to work…come home, sit in front of the computer…join real life for an hour for dinner…then back to the game…sleep for 4 hours, get up, have coffee…game for an hour before leaving work…I believe you are, perhaps familiar with this scenario or aspects thereof ??

well, after the “I’ll leep it to a couple of hours a day, hon” failed miserably, and the marriage was getting unpleasant to be in, I started keeping a log…silly, some may say, but hey! it worked for me…I wrote down the hours he was gaming online…and at the end of 2 weeks, had the same talk I described above…but this time I showed him the log…he was a little ‘surprised’…shocked…and he did indeed tone it down.

BTW, these facinations seem to come and go in our house lately…he goes now for weeks or months without being crazy about it…until a ‘new game’ appears, but his obssession about it only lasts a few weeks now, instead of months…it eventually wears itself out…

patience, my friend…it’s an addiction…

I also get involuntary twitchs and spasms upon hearing the names of certain games now…LOL

watch…

“Age of Kings”

::shudder, face paralysis…aaauuuuuggghhh::

or you can always wack them with something really hard…to show them how important the issue is to you…

I’m not that bad, Mister. 6 AM is not too late to be playing video games. I play mostly when you are asleep and wake up in time to go out. Hmmm… I suppose I am a little defensive. You know, I haven’t played Everquest since yesterday afternoon afterall.

Hmmm…a log. Good idea!

And Sqrl, it was 4:30 a.m. on Sat., 6 a.m. on Sunday. Then, after sleeping til noon on Monday, you woke up, got back online and played til 5 p.m. I believe.

Maybe next week will help break the addiction since Sqrl will be in Salt Lake City all week for work and won’t have access to the game.

Ahh…a thread I can relate to. My hubby is the same way. He gets up in the morning, plays a game for about an hour (this month’s obsession is Diablo II), then he goes to work. He comes home from work and head straight for the computer and plays until midnight or so. On weekends, he wakes up about 9 a.m. and plays constantly until bedtime, usually 2-3 a.m. on the weekends. It has gotten to the point where if I want to go do something on the weekend, I just pack up the kids and go without him. It is pointless to try and tell him to stop playing and pay attention to the rest of us. He doesn’t see his game playing as a problem. God help me, I love my husband, but I really don’t know how much longer I can put up with it. The really sad part about it is that this is his only real fault (unless you count the two packs of cigarettes a day). He is a nice guy who treats me good. He wouldn’t dream of raising a hand to me. He has a steady job, not to mention that he is really, really good in bed (wink, wink). I think I’m going to start keeping a log too. Maybe if I point out just how much his gaming obsession is starting to affect our marriage, maybe he will stop or at least cut down.

Eversmack its eversmack!

MUST…HAVE…EVERSMACK…FIX…

Hey, I play on Lanys T’vyl. I currently have a 16th level shadow knight in Lake Rathetear if anyone wants to join me. She is quite a fetching Dark Elf named Transya. I can’t wait to give her the last name of V’Esto.

HUGs!

My best friend is completely addicted to Everquest. He has only one phone line ( the philistine), so it is impossible to contact him. I’m thinking about buying the damn game just so I can talk to him in there. Maybe that’s EQ’s plan, make EQ the main method of communication in the world.

Hey, no fair trying to recruit other Questheads in my threat. Go start your own!
