My mother has asked me to contribute to an e-mail recipe chain, and I want to give her something quite evil. However, I’ve had some computer problems recently which keep me from gadding about the Internet as well as I’d like to. Can someone look up the recipe for Circus Peanut gelatin and post the gist of it here, so that I may horrify all of my mother’s friends?
Also, if you know of any other recipes which would fit the bill, Thanksgiving’s coming up and I like to give the relatives something to be wary of.
S.'S ORANGE CIRCUS PEANUT GELATIN
7 1/2 oz. (about 30) Spangler’s Orange Circus Peanuts
1 oz. pkg. orange gelatin
1 (16 oz.) can of mandarin oranges, drained*
2 cups boiling water
1 3/4 cups mandarin orange syrup and cold water
2 cups whipped topping
Cut into small pieces the Spangler’s Orange Circus Peanuts. Dissolve the gelatin in the boiling water. Add the pieces of Spangler’s Circus Peanuts, stirring until dissolved.
Drain the syrup from the mandarin oranges, adding enough cold water to equal 1 3/4 cups liquid.
Add to gelatin; chill until partially set. Stir together the mandarin oranges, and whipped topping; fold into the gelatin mixture. Pour mixture into a 13 x 9 inch pan. Chill until firm. Yields: 18 (3 ounce) servings.
*May substitute 16 ounces of canned, crushed pineapple, drained for the oranges.
Thank you, Darryl, thank you! You have done your bad deed for the day.
Hell, it doesn’t sound that bad. I’m quite sure I’ve seen worse at the community center in my childhood.
Upon googling, wow, Spangler’s peanuts are those marshmallow thingies, and not real peanuts. Maybe it is that bad! I may have to make it for the Thanksgiving potluck.
Well, if you want to go truly evil, there’s always Schadenfreude Pie .
Darryl, I did make it for Thanksgiving once, and served it without telling anyone the secret ingredient. They were horrified when they found out later on. Good times!
Maenad, that recipe’s just not scary enough, but it was really entertaining to read! Now I’m wondering about the time she taped bacon to the cat.
