Help finding old book

I have tried to Google this without any luck. Many years ago I read a story about some kids who found a skeleton behind a wall in the basement of a castle. After much investigation, it was determined that the castle had a tunnel which served as a secret entrance that went down to the sea below the water line. Some one had blocked the entrance by builting the wall - unbeknownst to the unfortunate owner of the skeleton - thus trapping them there.

It may have even been a goofy kiddy’s story but I remember it being a good read. It may have even been an E. A. Poe story. I’m pretty sure the words “ghost” and “pirate” were in the title.

The Pirates of the Caribean crapfest is clogging Google to the point that I can’t look anymore.

Does this jog anyone’s memory?

The Mystery of the Pirate’s Ghost by Elizabeth Honness.

Yes, it does, but it reminds me of one of my son’s Hardy Boys books - when he wakes up (he’s home on leave for Thanksgiving) I’ll call him and ask him.

ETA - or not. Since you obviously already have the answer and I didn’t see the post above mine.

Yours has been answered, but I’m responding to bump to add a request of my own.
This would have been in the mid-80s. I was in grade school and read a book about a group of kids, almost positive they were siblings but not 100%, who somehow had to care for dragon eggs. I believe there was some plot point hinging on the color of the egg and what that meant, but I may be conflating that with McCaffrey stuff I’ve come across.

What I remember most vividly is the book itself. It was a paperback-sized hardcover, with the heavy textured cover that had the artwork and text printed right on it. There was no paper book cover. I likely got it through a Scholastic-type program from school.

The illustration showed the giant dragon roosting over the nest filled with the eggs and the children down with them. Pretty vague, but I remember loving it. It’s killing me that I can’t find it because I was hoping to give a copy to my son this Christmas.
Any ideas?

Thanks Sigmagirl; that’s it! I knew someone here would know.

What a great bunch of folks.

Children of the Dragon? Published in 1985.

I just now recognized the author’s name after having had it nagging at me since I found the book. Rose Estes. She wrote a fair number of World of Greyhawk books (one of the Dungeons & Dragons settings) which weren’t well-received. From experience with some of those, I think your childhood memories might be misty and water-colored, mostly in a pinkish tone. And judging from some of the prices for used copies, I feel even more confident. But don’t let me discourage you…even an absolutely mint copy of the book bought from one of the Amazon re-sellers should be inexpensive enough not to be throwing money away in any case.

That’s absolutely it! Thank you. Checking out the reviews I see what you mean, but I’ll probably grab a copy anyway; at $4 it won’t kill me. I would have been 8 in '84, which is how old my son is now. Here’s hoping he’s as forgiving of it as I was then.
