She did something like this with the contractors and worked her father into it as well. I thought it was pretty effective. IIRC she didn’t go after Trump U which is a bit surprising because she could have worked it into a riff about her proposals for college students. Perhaps the right opportunity didn’t come up.
On the whole she didn’t try for too many zingers and that was a wise choice since it really isn’t her style. Her first one on “trumped-up trickle-down” was pretty groan-inducing.
Hillary, you are the worst embodiment of a self serving politician. How much money did you take from big donors to fund your smear campaign against me? The one where you make me out to be the worst possible thing that can happen to this country. I’m giving you a chance to avoid that horrible fate and you won’t take it because you think YOU are important enough to risk it. Nothing is more important to Hillary Clinton than Hillary Clinton.
I invited, then disinvited Gennifer Flowers because I wanted to highlight how you were willing to place almost all of the blame of an affair your husband had on HER because your husband was your ticket to more fame and fortune. You would be some nameless lawyer at some law firm without your husband and you knew it so you threw Gennifer Flowers under the bus and swallowed your pride to save your husband for the sake of your ambitions.
The guy who’s on his third wife, can’t stop sniffling, and is Trump, is going to talk about somebody else’s infidelity, health, and temperament. And it will work.
Man, Monday night when Trump autobackpatted about not saying nasty things about Hillary, you could see me shiver with antici
I was there on the couch, shouting, “SAY IT! SAY IT MOTHERFUCKER! SAY IT!” Because you know Clinton was ready for him to say it, ready to contrast his total classlessness with her classiness.
I suspect she was as disappointed as I was that he didn’t stoop that low, and I suspect she is hoping, as I am, that he’ll do it in the next debate. Short of reaching back and grabbing a handful of shit to fling at her, it’s the best thing he can do to reveal his character to voters who haven’t yet noticed.
I suppose it would be beneath her to go on and say “Because it isn’t big enough?”
But if he were to raise the whole infidelity thing, all she’s got to say is something like “For all his faults, I stood by my commitment to my husband. I didn’t declare the marriage bankrupt and walk away to leave someone else to deal with the mess, I didn’t trade him in for a newer model. I decided to stay the course. And that’s what a President should do.”
“Because my husband is a dick dynamo! I don’t have time to keep him in trim, so I outsource it. Long as I get what I need, why be stingy? 'Course, when he uses his knob to make decisions, he’s not the brightest bulb, can any of you other ladies relate? Thought so…”
Trump: Yeah you stayed the course. Are you saying that a woman whose husband cheat on her still has some sort of commitment to her husband? C’mon! You didn’t stay with Bill because you’re committed to marriage, you stayed with bill because your political ambitions would have die right there if you left Bill Clinton. Everybody knows it and the more you try to deny it the more uncomfortable you look. If you are going to lie as much as you do, you should at least try not to be so bad at it. I mean your lies are so transparent that even people that are voting for you think you’re a liar. This is true. Just look at the polls. YUUUGE.
I was going to do this, but it turns out I don’t have the time: is anyone willing to go through live analysis of the zingers (like from Frank Luntz’s dial sessions https://twitter.com/FrankLuntz) and compare the results of the dial sessions to the proposed zingers. Like if someone posted to this thread that Trump should attack her health/stamina, and compare that to the dial reactions of when Trump tried to attack her stamina? I’m curious who had the best/worst proposed zingers from an audience reaction perspective.
As an example of what I’m saying: Clinton attacked Trump for cheating his contractors. The dial sessions showed that it was a devastating attack. Among Trump’s core (non-college-educated whites), over 70% approved of Clinton’s attacks.
