I’m looking for a movie I saw a long time ago on TV. I’m pretty sure it was in the 80’s I know I use to have the tv guide add for the movie. I think it was called “The Mistress” but when I try to look up that title I can’t find it.
The story was about a girl/young lady who’s father is a bad gambler and puts her dowry up as a stake in a card game. The bad guy who wants the girl is very happy that he is about to win her when a kind rich gentleman intervenes and wins the card game. By wining her dowry he now basically owns her. He moves her to his house which his mother does not like and she causes trouble. The girl and gentleman fall in love and despite the obstacles and his mother they end up together. This was a historical romance set in 1700’s. Please help identify this film. I’ve been looking for it for a long time.
