Help identifying Norwegian female artist

No, it’s not Stina Nordenstam.

About 10 or 11 years ago I found an album by a woman who was, I think, Norwegian. I’ve since lost track of it, but wanted a copy for a friend I think would like it a lot.

The woman’s style shared some vague similarities with, primarily, Heidi Berry and Jane Siberry (obviously she had different similarities with each artist). It was kind of jazz inflected, but I’d hesitate to call it jazz. Some of the songs had a kind of Laurie Anderson style non-musicality to them; some phrases spoken instead of sung. (All was in English, BTW, not Norwegian.)

The album cover, as I remember it, showed a photo of the artist, who had long straight hair; I remember the photo as being blue-colorized black and white.

I want to say her first name was Sigrid, but I think I’m getting that from the Sigrid Undset part of my brain. But I feel like it started with an S.

It was probably a 1997 or 98 release; the other album I listed to a lot at about the same time was the Geraldine Fibbers’ 1997 Butch. (No similarity at all, btw.)

Thanks in advance!

Lene Marlin?

Nope, not quite it. This artist definitely older, probably late 30s to mid 40s I think.

K. One bump. Anyone? Surely someone else must have come across this artist?

Sissel Kyrkjebø? Maybe this is the album cover?

Could it have been Sissel Kyrkjebo? She sings in Norwegian mainly but also in English.

ETA: Darn it, pipped to the post again.

Lisa Ekdahl, perhaps? Swedish, but sorta fits the bill.

Dang. No, and no. She’s very avant/alt; think of a slightly modern-jazz inflected Laurie Anderson, but with a soft breathy voice more like Sandy Denny or Heidi Berry. She reminded me “conceptually” of Jane Siberry even though she didn’t really sound like her.

FOUND HER! Sidsel Endreson.

Yay Google and Wikipedia: “norwegian female jazz singers” led me to that page. Woot!

Here’s the album cover.

Glad we could… er, help.
