It was a parady of James Bond movies. A high school student on a class trip happens to share the same name as a secret agent (who get’s killed in his only scene). At first he has no idea what’s happening, only that mistaken for the agent at check in and put in First Class (while his class is put in coach). A Q character gave him all manner of gadgets including sneakers with suction cups that allowed him to walk on walls. A side-plot involved the chaparone (the French teacher) being mistaken by the State Department for an Eastern Bloc code named “the French Teacher”. There was also a scene at the end where the villians had this giant vat of molten metal (gold I think) and were dropping his classmates into it. Does any remember this movie?
It’s from 1991, so your memory of the time period is slightly off, but you’re definitely thinking of If Looks Could Kill.
There was a similar TV series, only one season, when FOX was a fledgling network- The New Adventures of Beans Baxter. In this one, his Dad, Beans Sr., was a milkman who was really a secret agent. Enemy agents kidnapped him, but before the dad’s agency found out, it sent the dad an assignment. Beans Jr got the message & actually completed the assignment, found out that his dad was abducted, and was brought into the agency. I loved that show.
Correction- Dad was a mailman. It aired in 1987.
