Help Me Buy A DVD Recorder!

I’m not sure if this is the right forum, but anyway…

I’m thinking of getting a new DVD Recorder. Right now I have a Panasonic DMR E30. It’s a first or second generation model; I don’t know if the model is badly designed or if my unit is just a lemon, but it’s a little bit wonky. (Saving to DVD-R is especially problematic, so most of what I have is on DVD-RAM.)

On the plus side, it’s got a nifty Flexible Time Recording feature, the ability to create and edit playlists, and it can also shorten segments (i.e., delete commercials).

So help me, fellow technophiles! If you’ve got a DVD Recorder, what kind do you have? Do you like it? Do you hate it? How many formats can it handle? What features does it have? Have you had any compability issues? How much did you pay for it?

And does anyone else have the DMR E30? If yes, have you had any problems with it?

I have a DMR-E50. I’ve had it for about 2 years now. The simplistic menu settings leave much to be desired, though.

I use it now to record to DVD-RAM which I then transfer to my computer. I have an LG multi-format DVD burner that handles the format.

It’s only gone mental once or twice. I would get a bad disc error and it wouldn’t release the disc. Other than that, it’s been a good unit.

I had originally wnated the higher end model with the harddrive, but, since I have a Dish PVR, I don’t really need it. Plus, it was $1000 at the time!
