Zeldar:
From the reactions to the posts in this thread I would suggest that your mom use the Netflix feature and rate as many shows and movies as she has time for and let Netflix do the recommending of things she and your dad will probably like.
The more shows they rate the better the recommendations are likely to be.
Yeah, I’ve told her to do that a bunch of times but she has yet to do so. And these recommendations here have actually been really helpful.
That’s a good idea. In fact, I remember them being big fans of Monk, so I bet they would probably like the rest of the USA “character” shows.

Veronica Mars (I assume it is available)
Brian
Life On Mars
either BBC or USA
Hanna Montana
Keen Eddie
Kyle XY
Medium
Stargate (Original and Atlantis)
The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones
Sliders
Roswell
Life On Mars
either BBC or USA
Exactly what I came here to suggest.
I’ll add Burn Notice.
Life On Mars
either BBC or USA
They’re actually watching Life on Mars (USA) right now. Last I heard the report was “we’re not sure about it, but we like the music.”
A few that I liked that I also think your mother would like:
“Hart to Hart”
“Hawaii Five-O” (the original, of course)
“Marcus Welby, M.D.”
“Mary Tyler Moore”
And one that my mother really enjoys: “The Waltons”
Try the pilot episode of “Cold Case” in case the rest of the series gets released.
If Mom doesn’t mind cop shows in the vein of “Hill Street Blues”, give “Third Watch” a try.
You might try the British series based on the James Herriot stories, All Creatures Great and Small . I’ve no reason to think your parents would like it, apart from the fact that it’s what I’ve been watching on Netflix lately and it’s more subtle than it is stupid.
Also if you want television in which the lead characters appear to sink their arms deeply into bovine orifices (in very believable fashion,) it’s the only game in town.
Mike Rowe would disagree with you.

That’s a British import that my parents liked. Another was “Good Neighbors”.
