Help me create a CD of overwrought rock ballads!

Exquisite Corpse by Hedwig Schmidt, aka John Cameron Mitchell, by him and Steven Trask.

]Cahyay, did you mean “Angel Eyes” by the Jeff Healy Band?

I’d recommend that one. The Top Gun song is “Take My Breath Away” which wasn’t an instrumental…so maybe GMRyujin actually meant something different…

“Highway Run” by Journey is good too. Depending on just how corny you want to be, there’s always “Careless Whisper”.

Yeah, that’s the song I meant, Jaade.

I should never drink and post, I tend to forget words and how to spell.

I think it’s called “Top Gun Anthem.” It’s that instrumental piece that goes…ahem, my best impression…

Far out! This thread is a hoot. It’s been a while since I dived so deeply into the depths of musical despair.

I shudder to think how this friggin playlist is gonna pan out. You must tell us the final tracklisting when you’re done!

Oooh, I dug out my Monsters of Rock CD and I’d forgotten…THE FINAL COUNTDOWN!

Zebra - Tell Me What You Want or Who’s Behind The Door.
Whitesnake - Here I Go Again.
Dokken - Alone Again.

The Scorpions - “Wind of Change”.

Forget those collaborations with Meatloaf and Bonnie Tyler, you want Jim Steinman singing Jim Steinman’s “Making Love Out of Nothing at All”.

Emma(line) by Hot Chocolate

High Enough by Damn Yankees–especially the video! When Ted steps out for the screaming guitar solo and bullets are zinging off him, it just brings a tear to my eye and a lump to my throat.

Let’s not forget:
“Dust In The Wind”, by Kansas
“Africa”, by Toto
“Rosanna”, by Toto

The only Journey song I know with those words in it is “Faithfully,” which I think is often parenthetically called “Forever Yours.” But I’m not much of a Journey fan, so there may be a song with the title “Highway Run” too.

Hmmm…I’ll add “Beth” by Kiss.

“Holding Out For A Hero” is way more overwrought!

And Steve Perry’s solo number “Oh Sherry” tops any Journey song I’ve heard in the wrought department.

I think you are right, I had a feeling that might not be the right name.

What about Lita Ford and Ozzy? “If I Close My Eyes Forever”

Speaking of Ozzy, overwrought is “Mama, I’m Coming Home”

Stairway’s not a bad suggestion, but I’d have to reccomend Pat Boone’s cover version. It’s… Jesus, it’s just not right. The rest of the album ain’t bad, either.

Scorpions “Still loving you”

I have to second “November Rain”.

I dunno if “Eye of the Tiger” is a ballad, really. There’s a ton of other songs in the Survivor oeuvre that are more appropriate for this project. Like “The Search is Over,” for example, or even better, “Man Against the World.” (I’m so ashamed; I had such shitty taste in music in high school.)

Hey, how about Chicago’s “Hard Habit to Break”?
