j666** - I used the Behr Premium Plus Ultra paint, which is supposed to have the primer in it. Home Depot said it should cover over white in 2 coats, compared to 4 coats for their Behr Premium Plus. At $33/gallon, it should have gold flecks (which might look cool!). The shutter sister is talking clematis. I’d love wisteria if it was so invasive.
Wisteria is so heavy - it really needs a tree or a stone wall. Clematis is nice, but isn’t it purple? Oh, apparently there are lots of white clematis. And it is light enough to grow on an inexpensive trellis.
The red does look great, now that you’ve got it painted! It does look way better on the house than the more subdued colors. I’m going to have to face the facts - I’m a boring-paint person until I see the results.
Are you sure you won’t consider a subtle blue-gray on the horse?
Grace could be the Mrs Slocumbe of horses. Actually, Grace is confined to the upper paddock tonight because she was acting a bit peaky. If she still isn’t right tomorrow, I’ll call the vet: “Yes, this is StG. Could you come look at Grace, she’s feeling blue. Oh, my white house is now red and my white horse is now slate grey.”
The horse feels better this morning, and the house is still cute. Last night I was so busy cleaning equipment that I accidentally left my car open and running in the driveway all night long. I woke to an almost empty tank, with the “Get Gas NOW!!!” light on. I had to go into town with my stepfather (who’d come to take the rental boom back to the equipment company) with an empty gas can, drive his car back out with the full gas can, fill my car and take the sprayer back to the rental company. I was over an hour late to work.
Too funny. Once I went to visit my folks and arrived late at night. I left the car running and the door open while I unpacked - and then forgot. The police came by, thought things looked suspicious and knocked on the door. Then gave me a sobriety test!
We got some more trim painted this weekend. I’m wondering if I need to paint any of the trim contrasting black. Like around the pillars on the porch, there’s detail work that could be painted a different color. Or would that be too busy? Also, besides repairing the screen door, any door suggestions? And should the weather vane be on the peak in the front, or the middle of the long part? New pic - not much change, but the window in the front porch is painted. The roses were much better last week.
Last pics for a while. I finally got the painting done. Still need to do the roof and get the weathervane up. I’d like to take pics from all around the house. These were taken this morning in the rain. I’m still open to suggestions about the door. I ended up painting it white, but could go contrasting.
Thanks for the compliments, guys. I’m just so glad it’s done!
What about the screen door? It’s pretty ornate, with spindles and things. Should it be the came color as the door, or leave the door white and paint the screen door a different color?
