Help Me Find A Picture of This Hairstyle!

Howdy, Dopers.
This is kind of a two parter, but I think it’s more pointless than GQ, so humour me.

I am going to get my hair dyed within the next month. I want the underneath part of my shoulder length hair to be dyed darker than the rest. You know the look, right?

Is there an actual name for this look?

You do know the one, right? Remeber the “undercut”? Well, this would be if you took the hair that you would cut from an undercut, but dye it a different colour, usually darker.

I would show you a picture of what I’m talking about, but I can’t find any!
Please help me find a picture and/or name of this hair style so that my hair dresser knows what I’m talking about when I go see her.

Thanks in advance!

I think it is called an “overlay”.

Is this it?

That is it exactly!
Thank you so much, Lyllyan.
Now I just gotta hope it turns out good!

Okay you did just a great job on that, Lyllan. Can you find me a bubble cut? That’s what I heard it called by more than one person and I’ve seen it around but no stylist has ever heard of it.

It’s a short nape-of-the-neck length curly hair style. It’s like a stack only it’s all rounded. Like a bubble. Rounded across the head like from ear to ear and a rounded stack from the nape up to the shortest layer. I think it’s a cute sassy look that I would love but every time I try to describe it to a stylist and they get this glassy look and I change my mind.

So can you help me find a pic? I scoured that site that you linked to above and they don’t have it.

Well, here is your classic bubble cut.

God help us all if THAT ever comes back! Beach party movies are dancing through my head!

LOL! Let’s hear it for Annette!

EEEeeeeeeek!!!
That is NOT what I’m talking about. ::shudder::

Although it could explain the glassy look the stylists get when I ask em about it.

Where’s my beach towel and my cat’s eye sunglasses?

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Copper_Moon, but I am no Duck Duck Goose.

Do any of these look like what you want? The curly part is really throwing me off.

Oooh, I really like the one in the second link, there.

I’ve found a few others that might be kind of the idea of what you’re looking for Copper_Mom.
Is it anything like these styles?

Lyllyan’s second link and your 3rd link Harli are the closest but maybe if I describe it as a medium length curly wedge that would be better. I’m at a loss. I’ve seen this look around and even on a commercial. I just must not be communicating it well. The very next person I see with it I’m asking them point blank where thay got it cut and what it’s called.

I found a picture close to what I want. Bear with me, I’ve never done a link before but here’s my best shot.

Now take her hair and give it a wedge? or stack? to it in the back and that’s what I want. And I love that color, too.

Ooooh…that’s cute! Looks like a girl from the '20s or something with all those curls!

Oh wow…I love that first link that Harli provided. My hair was similar to that at one time, but like a fool, I let it grow out and it’s pretty much a limp mop now.

I’m going to print that out and take it to my hairstylist. Thanks for the great links, everyone!

Copper_moon, you could also look for pictures of Sarah Jessica Parker from last season’s Sex and the City, when her hair was short. That’s what I did when I got my hair cut last summer like hers.

My hairdresser was ecstatic - and was glad to have photos to work from, since my hair texture is pretty dead-on to SJP.

Is that more what you are looking for? It was such a cute cut - and great for the summer.

Copper_moon how about these?

OH NO!!!
I can’t access the Jenna Elfman picture that Lyllyan linked!
Is it just me, or has the access been cut off for everyone?
I’m getting my hair done Saturday morning, I need a picture!

just my damn luck
