My father-in-law wants a strap for his Nook Color. He bought of these but they’re clearly decorative, not to be used as an actual handle.
Years ago, when I still carried a Franklin Planner, which had a detachable strap. It was a wrist-length loop that attached to a D-ring on the binder via a swivel hook such as the ones here. That would be perfect for what he wants.
Does anyone know where such things might be found these days? Just the strap / swivel hook, not the whole binder! (Franklin’s web page was quite unhelpful, I guess they don’t have much demand for that sort of thing any more).
Judging by the photo, it’s one of those hard-ish wire endings with a rope strap, right? Provided that the Nook has the proper hole for one, why not consider the wriststrap from a Nintendo Wii?
However, in the thread, someone points out that the little corner where you would put such a strap is not meant to be “weight bearing.” The OP in the linked thread says he just uses it “in case it slips.”
So, if dad is looking to strap up his Nook and carry it around…you might actually be better off getting some sort of case.
You could always check Etsy. I make bracelets for holding dog training clickers. Making it wider, to reduce pressure on the wrist, and changing the clipping mechanism would probably achieve the same thing. However, my stuff is made with bead weaving and might look too girly for your dad. This did give me a good idea of a gift for my mom though.
Anyway, look around and see what you can find. There are people who do custom leather work too. Depending on how much he’s willing to pay, he could probably get something nicer than an old camera strap.
