This is what it looks like:

EXCEPT the shade on the bottom is bigger than the one on top. Also, there are light bulbs in both the top and bottom shades. One switch controls both bulbs like this:
One turn: top light on
Two turns: both lights on
Three turns: bottom light on
Four turns: all off
I have been looking and looking for a lamp like this. I have given up just finding an antique – I would be willing to buy one new.
My dad broke the one my mom had, and I have been trying to find a replacement for her for about three years and I’m at my wit’s end. If anyone can find one like this I would buy it in a heartbeat. It would be a perfect Christmas present for her.
Here you go, this woman makes (pricey) reproductions: http://www.victorianreflections.com/G_W_W.htm
Have you seen this site, holy smokes! http://19thcenturylighting.com/
Whoops, she’s died. Bummer.
More reproductions: http://www.grampslamps.com/cgi-bin/products.cgi?Main_Category=Gone%20With%20The%20Wind&Sub_Category=Ball%20Shade
If you do a search on “gone with the wind” lamps, you’ll get tons of results. I didn’t see any that duplicated your mom’s but if you’re willing to do a reproduction, I’m sure they can duplicate it easily.
Thanks Sue! Those sites all look familiar. Yeah, I was all set to ask that one woman to paint a lamp for me, and I found that she had died. It’s been a while, too, strange that they left the website up like that.
