Okay, so I’m teaching Taming of the Shrew in summer school in a couple of weeks. It’s not my favorite Shakespeare play, not by a long shot. I would, however, like to show them a modern take on the play. There is 10 Things I Hate About You, but it’s PG-13, and the administration may not go for it.
What I’d really like to do is find the episode of Moonlighting called “Atomic Shakespeare” - where Maddie is Katharina and David is Petruchio. It’s a little dated, sure, but I think the squibs will still get the point. Trouble is, I can’t find it anywhere.
If only you’d posted this earlier. I recently threw out my tapes. I had all of them on video. The quality wasn’t great anymore and didn’t figure they were worth saving now.
I can’t hear “Good Lovin’” without thinking of that episode.
Where I live (CA) it is on the Bravo channel twice a day. They are near the end of the series right now, and if I remember correctly this episode is about the third season, so they won’t play it in the next few weeks or so.
I hope someone has a tape and can help you out.
Good Luck! (maybe you could find a script for this episode online? The name of the ep is “Atomic Shakespere” It would be fun to read in class: (from the episode)
Baptista: It is plain the whole town knoweth of the deal 'twixt me and Petruchio. And if the whole town knoweth, then 'tis possible that Kate knoweth. And if Kate knoweth and knoweth that the whole town knoweth and knoweth that we knoweth that she knoweth – knowest what that means?
I’m sorry to say, I’m sad to report, I can’t find this episode that makes you snort. Not on VHS, or DVD. It just is not available, don’t you see. So I wish you luck, I give you my best, hopefully you are more sucessful than I on this quest.
They filmed the wedding at the church down the block from where I lived during college, and me and some friend recalled seeing some strange shit going on during filming. Fun times!
phouka - I’ve got it on tape somewhere. It’s in pretty rough shape though and it may take few a couple of weeks to dig it up (not sure if it’s here or at my mom’s.)
