Help me find something to stream (or DVR)...

I have Netflix and Amazon Prime, and I am having a hard time finding anything good to watch. These are the shows I have really liked:

Justified
Endeavor and Inspector Lewis
Life
The Killing (Rosie Larson)
Downton Abbey
Bleak House
Longmire
Under the Dome (I can only tolerate it without commercials)
Green Wing
Doc Martin

This is my first post after 10 years of lurking. I know you folks will find me something!

Try the new Sherlock. Only six episodes but they’re rather good.

If you haven’t watched it through, Monk is an absolutely delightful detective show.

Thanks! Whew…somebody replied. Performance anxiety after 10 years!

Thanks for the suggestions. I love the new Sherlock…are they doing more?

Your list is almost identical to my list of Amazon viewing favorites, and I would have recommended Sherlock first and foremost. Next would have been Foyle’s War.

Yes, they are filming additional Sherlock episodes as we speak. Look around this forum (and many others) and you will find discussion of all of the minutiae of filming.

I enjoyed a show on Netflix called Luther.

Saving Grace took a few episodes, but I liked that very much in the end.

Ripper Street
Copper
I’d like to know where have you been streaming Justified?

I got the first 3 seasons of Justified on Amazon Prime.

“Jericho” is available. It certainly had its faults, but was still a decent take on post-apocalyptic life that might appeal to you since you liked “Under the Dome.” It started pretty weak with a lot of boring interpersonal melodrama, but improved greatly over time. However, fair warning, it was canceled untimely so it doesn’t end properly.

Borgia: Faith and Fear on Netflix is supposed to be more historically accurate than The Borgias on Showtime. “The Borgias” vs. “Borgia: Faith and Fear” (accuracy in historical fiction) – Ex Urbe

On Amazon Instant video there are some great oldies.
The first 2 seasons of All Creatures Great and Small.
Compilation episodes of William F. Buckley’s Firing Line are interesting for historical value. “Firing Line 1966-1986: Personalities”, “Firing Line 1966-1986: World Leaders”.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. That will get me started!

I can’t believe you haven’t already considered this, what with how much attention it’s getting these days, but Breaking Bad.

House of Cards. Both the original British version (4 episodes, plus two 4-episode ‘sequels’) and the American Version (1 season so far).

If you liked Inspector Lewis and Endeavor, you should enjoy Inspector Morse.

Damages

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I watched the pilot for Breaking Bad last night. That’s different!

Tonight I have Inspector Morse queued up.

This thread made me think of this handy infographic.

My favorite Inspector Morse episode is “The Way Through The Woods” due to its very dramatic ending. And that’s all I’ll say about it.

I have no idea if these are available to you, but:

Jonathan Creek
Midsomer Murders
Broadchurch
Psych
Leverage
Castle

Jeeves and Wooster.

For something different, especially if you like WWII, check out Band of Brothers.

Seconding this. There was I think a two-hour episode made after there was a lot of fan uproar when the series was abruptly cancelled. It wrapped things up, not as well as the show’s creator would have liked probably, but at least it doesn’t leave you completely hanging (funny story-- part of the plot involved someone quoting a famous general, who being asked to surrender, replied “nuts”. When the show was cancelled, the fan base sent bags of nuts to the network. Didn’t get the show completely brought back, but did get the wrap up episode made).

Another apocalyptic show-- I didn’t watch “The Walking Dead” the first time on TV because I think the general idea if zombies is silly, but I started binge-watching it on Netflix and it’s really well-made and very watchable.

“Orange is the New Black”, a Netflix original dark comedy-drama about a women’s prison, is pretty good.

And Breaking Bad is fantastic- I’d keep up with it. I enjoyed the first two seasons, but i thought mid-way through the third season was when it really got to a mind-boggling genius level of great.

Would anyone recommend Falling Skies? We watched the first couple of episodes on TNT, and then ran out of time for it. It’s all over Amazon - any good?
