Help me find this delicious cracker/cookie/teabiscuit I had one time.

It was recently so at least it should be a product still on the shelves. A friend brought them to a picnic, but I know I had had seen them before somewhere else

It was a rectangular cracker/cookie thing–it wasn’t sweet enough to be a cookie and too sweet to just be a cracker. Much closer to a tea biscuit. I believe it might have been a cornmeal base (maybe cornmeal/shortbread) Very dense–no crumbs. Each one was coated in a way I’d best describe as a glaze with a bit of tasty shellac to it. It wasn’t sticky but the glaze kept the cracker from getting too soggy too fast when dunked in tea.

The friend who brought them said she got them at Whole Foods and they were in the cheese section. A search of two Whole Foods has turned up empty.
They are definitely either an import or a Whole Foods/Trader Joes type product.

Web searches have been fruitless, so I’m bringing this to the Dope to see is anyone has any ideas.

Was it a Lu?

Sadly, no. I should have said straight rectangle-- no frills, no design. I am 90% sure there was no “brand” on the cracker/cookie itself.

Compared to a plain Graham cracker was it smaller or larger? Sweeter or less sweet?

Was the glaze mildly coffee-flavoured? If so, they may have been Cafe Noir cookies.

Were they in a cellophane bag, instead of a box? I may have seen something very similar at Whole Foods, indeed in the cheese department.

Oatcakes. I got some at the local EarthFare cheese section. I’ll find a link to the brand when I get back from an appointment. The ones I had ran about $5.99 a bag, went great with goat cheese and spicy peach preserves. There were two varieties, I think the other one was a nut cake. But I loved them so much I dug up a similar recipe that I haven’t tried yet.

Effie’s Homemade Oatcakes

AHHHHHHHHHHHH I think you found them! Thank you!

The Dope pulls through. thanks everyone.

Okay, so now I want some. We don’t have anything around here called “EarthFare.” Who else has them? I have cheese; I need crackers and I need them now!

Here’s a recipe that seems to come close to the list of ingredients on the bag, but I haven’t tried it yet. And I shelled out too much money for the spicy peach preserves they paired it with in the store, the next time I served it I just mixed some horseradish into basic peach preserves to taste, and it was great.

Effie’s sells them on amazon.com (of course)!

Bless you. We can’t let any craving go unsatisfied. Or our heads might explode.

Dang. These little gems are expensive- $36 for six packages.
