Help me find this rock song, from an opera clue

While having lunch at Friday’s today, there was a song that came on in the restaurant. Generic family-friendly rock type music; electric guitars, 4/4, nothing spectacular.

But I swear that the chorus sounded like a note-for-note rip of the big, powerful theme from “Vesti la Giubbi” in Pagliacci. Go to 2:05 in this clip of Pavorotti singing the aria to remind yourself of the melody.

Any idea what the rock song is? A quick google is failing me.

It’s hard to hear the music because he’s so loud, but it reminds me faintly of the chorus to Finger Eleven’s "Paralyzer."Very faintly.

I can very safely say it’s not “Paralyzer.” I’m not talking “faintly,” I mean “bludgeon you over the head obvious.”

Pavorotti sings it a good deal slower and more expressively than in the rock song. If anybody recalls the “The Italian Bob” episode of the Simpsons, it’s more like the pacing of Krusty’s gag lyric (“We’re all out of Rice Krispies”) version.

According to Wikipedia “Rock band Queen use part of the melody for the opening lines of the 1984 song It’s a Hard Life from the album The Works.”

Here’s a You Tube clip of the song.

I saw (and was a bit surprised by) that. Love the song, but alas, it’s not the one. This is soulless modern rock. Like Lifehouse or Daughtry or something.
