Greetings dopers
Yestarday I picked up WOW and so far am having a great time with my dwarf pally! The game looks beautiful and i was havving pretty great frame rates! 24-30 fps usually But! today for some reason the game seems a little more laggy than yestarday. And when i went into ironforge today forr the first time I was getting 2 frames a seccond!
So! I Turn to you! what do i need to do to make this game not do little annyoing things such as that.
my comp is a HP pavilion a220n if that means anything…
2.08ghz
512 ram
120 gig HD
Nvida GeForce 4 mx “graphichs with 64mb ddr shared video memory”
thanks for your help!
First step…don’t go into Ironforge (also called Lagforge) unless you absolutely have too.
Seriously though, you need to upgrade your video card to something with more RAM in it (I had the same card as you in the beta and upped it to a 5600 with 256mb RAM and it helped…a LOT). Additionally were it me and can you afford it you need to up your system RAM to 1 gig…thats also something I did, and it also had a noticable impact.
I assume you aren’t trying to play with a dialup connection, so there probably isn’t much you can do on that end (if you ARE on a dialup, get a broadband connection…fast).
Also…take your time leveling up. Really no rush getting to 60, as once you get there its only raid and PvP right now. Though…Battle Grounds did come out today, so that might be incentive enough.
the ram i can probably afford but the i dont know how much video cards run now a days (last time i bought a video card that wasent shipped with the machine was in Quake 2!!!)
also is there any sort of setting in the video options that makes and insane difference on game play, im really looking for a easy way out
thanks alot!
oh! and I Fluff on the horde!!!
Well…the BG’s are pretty ugly so far. I’m hoping its just post-patch lag, but after waiting an hour and finally getting in I could barely play. Crossing fingers its a temporary problem…and that they work out these long wait times to get in.
I always have lag in Ironforge. I updated my video card to some ATI 256 meg thing, and it’s good. But ALWAYS with the Ironforge lag. I have been told that upping RAM from 512 to 1 Gig will likely help.
I never have real probs with patches, though I’m on DSL - this likely makes a bgig diff.
Even with settings at low, is your video card even capable of playing the game? Obviously so, but if it were me, and I could afford th 159 bucks, I’d upgrade the video card first - it worked well for me. I intend to upgrade my RAM, but the game is quite enjoyable as it is, the only lag is in Ironforge, really…
Definitely upgrade the video card. I know I’m just repeating what everyone else has said, but it really is the best thing you can do for your system. NewEgg has a number of cards in the ~$200 range that will seriously improve the experience.
As for the new patch, I was playing in the CTF Warsong Gulch battleground last night. Only had an hour, but I had an insane amount of fun. My highest character is only 43, so I’m not going to be playing with Alterac Valley any time soon. The CTF game is great, though.
