Help me help my wife: identify old PBS show.

My wife and I were sitting here just a few minutes ago and she brought up a show she used to watch on PBS when she was little (or at some point in history, who knows) that was all about the reading of stories. On the screen was an animation of the story but it wasn’t complete, it was more like pictures that were drawn in as the story was told.

Neither of us could remember if this really existed, or what it may have been called. Any help from the dopers?

Simon in the Land of Chalk Drawings?

Brendon, was the story illustrated by a guy with a moustache? Did he read the story with a really soothing voice? If that’s it, then I know exactly what you’re talking about, but cannot for the life of me remember the name of it.

Apparently it was not that, Leaffan, but thanks for the neat suggestion (I had never heard of it, and Youtube had some fun stuff on it). She said that she thinks it was books read aloud, or at least the stories that were in published books, possibly classics.

Again, if this didn’t actually exist, we apologize.

Is this it? Cover to Cover?

If not, he did a couple other shows. Here’s a link to a retro tv message board where they answer the same question:
Robbins shows

Cover to Cover may be it. Hopefully I can find some good video online of the actual story part of the show.

Thanks!

Thanks for that memory; I’d forgotten that show, but used to watch it quite a bit!

Wow yeah, that was a cool show!

Kind of funny to think of it now that you could be mesmerized watching a guy drawing while listening to him read. PBS rules

Is that the cartoon that had the theme song, “Well you know my name is Simon, and the things I draw come true”?

If so, I would like to thank you for that link.

I’m pretty sure he did the “tripod” books. I remember getting the books from the library after seeing the show.

We used to watch Cover to Cover in school. I remember reading quite a few of the books.
