My slowly functioning brain has tossed up a few more bits of info. I think the cartoon was called “Simon in the Land of Chalk Drawings”. Everything he drew on his blackboard became real in Chalk Drawing Land. The numbers he used to practice addition and subtraction lived on the moon.
Simon! Well you know my name is Simon
and the things I draw come true
And the pictures take me take me take me
Anywhere I want to go…
Sorry- I made up the last line because I can’t remember it, but I got the essence of it.
It was a cartoon on Pinwheel. You know- that show with Plus and Minus. And Emily-
*You can tell it’s me Emily
Cause I always wear red you see
I have a little Hedgehog Humphrey…"
That Emily song gives me a headache- because I associate it Pinwheel with grocery shopping with my mom before I was of school age and I used to get carsick.
For some reason, the Simon song doesn’t have th esame effect.
Yep, The Land of Chalk Drawings definitely rings bells with me, but it wasn’t Kaptain Kangaroo. I can even visualize part of the opening scene, and get the tune in my head… but that’s it…
“Well, you know my name is Simon…
And the things I draw come true…
And they take me, take me, take me, take me,
over the garden wall with you.
Perhaps you saw the children’s television show when you were younger? Simon In The Land Of Chalk Drawings.”
Got that from an About.com site about drawing. Though I think the third line is quoted correctly by Turpentine, not here.
And, this site claims to have online versions for the asking:
