Help me ID this film from the silent era

I remember several scenes from this one, but I’m freezing on the title. Pretty sure it is a German work, IIRC it is highly regarded in the development of film narrative.

One main character is a hunchback “mad-scientist” type who runs a traveling magician/medicine-man show. The centerpiece of his act is a zombie-like man who he refers to as a “somnambulist” (sleepwalker). He produces the creature before audiences in an upright coffin, then procedes to demonstrate his mystical powers by commanding him on stage. At night, the somnambulist wanders the city streets (I think at his master’s command) and kills. Scenes of the creature stalking the streets feature stylized backgrounds, cityscape drawings of buildings at odd angles and distorted perspectives.

I hope that description is accurate, if I can’t remember the friggin’ title I may have also muddled the details. Any ideas?
